The one-off BMW Zagato Coupe blends the design DNA of the two companies through many hours of hand-craftsmanship. The Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d’Este is one of the most exclusive events in the world for classic cars where the limited number of vehicles on display are hand-picked.
"Zagato has always provided its customers with ready-to-drive cars which can be sent into action on the road or race track without further ado – and the BMW Zagato Coupé fits the same template," says Dr Andrea Zagato.
"Working with Zagato was a fantastic experience. It was extremely enriching for us to create something with people who share our understanding of good design and passion for cars and that is what makes the car so special," explains Karim Habib, Head of Design BMW Automobiles.
The body of the Zagato coupe is hand built with a tailored aluminium skin to fit the base car's architecture. Though BMW is tight lipped, without a doubt it is clear the Zagato Coupe has an uncanny resemblance to the BMW Z4. Zagato has an interesting take on the famed kidney grille, with the small matte Zagato "z" letters that appears to be floating.
While the front resembles a BMW; the rear end has a clear Zagato influence. The rear end’s classy figure provides evidence of avant-garde hand-craftsmanship. A large diffuser provides contrast and sporty presence with matt finished exhausts, contributes to the stylish rear.
The light matte finished 19-inch alloy wheels in five-spoke design hints a propeller design, paying homage to the origins of both companies. Indeed, both BMW and Zagato founder Ugo Zagato took an airborne route into automotive construction. The exclusive exterior is finished in Rosso Vivace, created through a sophisticated paint application technology with almost 10 coats. The colour spectrum ranges from close to black all the way to a brilliant red depending on light.
The interior is clear BMW styling. The base colours for the exclusive leather trim are shades of grey, with red decorative stitching in the instrument panel, doors and the "z" embroidered seats.
