I purchased this car in 2010. My mind was set on the Avante. It was within my budget and decent looking. I used it for almost 10 years now and it was time to bid it goodbye. The pricing was very attractive considering it was a comfortable sedan, and significantly cheaper than similar sedans like the Honda Civic. My saleswoman at Komoco Motors was very friendly. Even though this car wasn't filled with tech, it just did the work perfectly and had all basic features required. Considering the price I paid for the car, it did wonders and it was surely a positive experience. Front and rear legroom was spacious, even for someone who is above 6 feet. The air conditioning system was fantastic, and managed to cool the whole car well even with the absence of rear aircons. The seat leather quality was terrific. Engine pick up was very decent for a 1.6L car and perfect for city driving. Even in Malaysia, I could take the car upto 140km/h comfortably. There was ample storage space; 2 cupholders in the front and back respectively, the dashboard and side compartment were also spacious, along with a sunglasses holder. The boot was massive, and able to take upto 2 large suitcases as well as handbags. Regarding reliability, the car was fine overall just that the battery used to die out if the car wasn't utilised for 2 weeks or so. In the end, the steering wheel started to have a clicking sound but these were just minor issues. Overall, the car was highly reliable and it was a positive experience with Hyundai. The Avante was significantly cheaper than other rival sedans, and also gave me a decent fuel average of 12-13km/l in the city. I bid goodbye to my Avante with a heavy heart, as it was finally time to upgrade.
If you are looking for a comfortable sedan without having to burn a hole in your pocket, this is the car to go for. The Avante is reliable and also very spacious for 4-5 passengers. Even a 10 year old model with a renewed COE is not a bad choice. Just make sure to test drive the car once before buying. Feel free to contact me with any queries :)

I think this Avante HD has deserved to be reviewed and justified since I am owning and drive this car for 10 years and 3 months now. More than 10 years ago, I was never a Korean ride supporter until I sat in one and felt impressed by it.
Back in those days when COE is low, Honda City, Toyota Vios, Proton Persona, Kia Cerato (like its styling) and the Subaru Impreza 1.5R were all in my lists but never the Avante. In the end, after much research between the Kia Cerato and Avante, I decided to go test drive the Avante and sign for it on the spot. And got the car a week later.
Why Avante over all the above?
1) Pricing - Avante is easily $8k cheaper or more than the Japanese makes in my list. And even lower pricing than Proton Persona.
2) Engineering - Avante has all round independent suspension while the rest, other than Persona and Impreza are all torsion beam rear suspension setup.
3) Good Balance - Avante closest rival was its own cousin, the Cerato, as far as size is concern. Both are equally spacious over others in my list. But Avante wins the Cerato by having a soft touch dashboard (Cerato initial batch are all hard plastics), rear disc brakes, electric power steering and a quieter ride. Even the pricing of the Avante was $2k ~$3k lower than Cerato then.
My impression has changed after owning this ride and I started to follow up with the engineering of Korean rides and they seems to get better with each new model introduction while the Japanese had stayed on with slower progress over the years until recent years. Koreans have definitely come a long way and their effort is commendable. Till date, they still offers good value and decent safety and equipment list. But economy and styling are something the Koreans should improved on. After the Elantra MD, i45, which first adopt the fluid sculpturing styling, their designs seem to take a step backwards.

when i was looking for a car in 2009, there was only one considerations... it has to be cheap... and boy was this car cheap... it cost $44999 inclusive of COE.
fast forward to 6 years later, the car is still going strong, parts are cheap from stock list and it can travel fast if you want to :p
the interior is big for a car of this class and so is the boot space

Have drove up to penang with half tank still left. Power is there for overtaking. Have reached 160km/h before with this.Large boot space and quite cold aircon.

I bought my car in April 2011, 1.6S RS Sports model (OFC). I test drove the Cerato and Vios, before trying Avante. The Cerato's drive was good but rough, but I rejected because of its prize and customer service, arrogant and unfriendly. Vios was the better one of all, but 2 reasons for my rejection were: Pricey (not value for money) & small compared to other 1.6 cars.
The main reason for me to look for Avante was the customer service and the price. I got attracted to the car due to the price and good costomer service and went for a test drive. I got to know about the various features it is offering similar to Cerato and Vios at a better price, so thought why not take the Korean brand instead of Japanese ones as they are really becoming popular.
I was attended by Janice frm Komoco Motors. She took her time to explain all the features and did the quotation without any hassle. Most of all added in some freebies. All was done with a smile. Amazing!!! I would like to thank her.
So far the experience has been wonderful.
The FC I get is about 11.5 - 12km/l, which is decent considering the Auto Transmission and with 17 inch rims.
The interior is well designed, with reverse camera and all my family have appreciated the comfortable ride it has given.
The car is very very quite even at 120km/h.
The rear seat is very spacious for 3 full size adults.
The boot size is pretty good and extra luggage can be easily stored because of the 40-60 rear seat fold feature.
The side mirrors are auto retractable based on the ignition key.
The car also auto-locks in 5 secs after the engine starts.
The reason I didn't think twice before buying this was that I got a very good sales executive who gave me the below freebies with my Sports model.
1. Front fog lamps
2. Steering wheel audio controls
3. Remote boot opening
4. Solar film
5. Auto retractable side mirrors
6. Carmat, blue
The only downside about the car is the low responsiveness when on slope & overtaking. The rev goes to 3.5 on appying the accelerator too hard.
All-in-all, Hyundai is my value for money and the reason for me to buy this car.

Bought the 2009 facelift model without the antenna. The grille protrudes out and makes the car looks more stylish!
Engine start up is nice. quiet. Revved up to 2.5k rpm and the engine is still very quiet. cruising at 100km/h is awesome with quiet engine and tyres (tuff coat on). Pioneer HU makes music even more enjoyable. I can say that the engineers really take a good consideration of driver's comfort when designing the car.
VVT engine is good, v smooth. no more jerky feeling that I always get from Latio. (4AT version)
A lot of compartments for you to store things too!
Engine is responsive, better than Nissan Latio that I had owned previously. All lightings are so bright you do not even need to think about changing the lights inside unless your hand is itchy.
Good family car. spacious and comfortable to sit 4 mid sized adults at the back with ample leg room space. leather seats are so nice to sit in too. one can easily fall asleep in such a comfortable car inside.
boot space is enormous. You can put 3 strollers inside without much effort. Kudos for that too!
Fuel consumption isn't that great though. If you are comparing to nissan latio (which I did), latio is more fuel saving than this ride. However, it doesn't matter to me because the fuel trade-off is just 1km/l only. No big deal, just one trip lesser than usual. Don't buy a car if you think u cannot afford to pay for petrol.
Very good side mirrors too. positioned at a sweet spot where you do not have to turn your head excessively to view the LHS. Great design there.
Feels like a conti car when you drive. The acceleration is smooth and please do not compare with Japan cars. Those that drive japan cars will think that avante is sluggish, but in fact its not. This feature allows you to drive smoothly and power kicks in at higher speeds, just like continental cars.
Nothing to say bad about this car. Considering that it is cheaper than other 1.6L cars, this is definitely a best buy among all.
Give it a test drive today, you will fall in love with this car?

A reliable and value for money korean made vehicle available only recently in the motoring industry. Additional efforts can be made to the interior and exterior of the car to enhance its growing image

Had the car from new till today and all stock spec and clocked close to 170K in mileage, 4 yrs 1 mth. Only changed once for front & back brakes but on third set of rubber now. Fuel tank lighted up still move on & managed to clock about 750km for a full tank filled. Half tank usage managed about 400km+ from Singapore to Genting using 95, about 13-14km/litre.

Had it since 2008, really impressed with the engine's responsiveness. Traveled to KL via NS Highway couple of times, and surprised it reached 190km/h (do not attempt if u haven't upgraded to better, wider tires). Good acceleration due to the relatively low kerb weight compared to Kia's Cerato Forte.
The disappointment would only be apparent when you're going through corners. Body roll is evident. However, that being said, this is a family sedan after all. Overall good value for money. Definitely more worthy than the Toyota Corolla Altis.
New Avante model due soon with 140bhp (1.6L), can't wait.

It is a nice car, the first car I bought. With low COE and the fact that it is OPC, it is cheap. Overall value for money. I agree with other reviewers that the fuel cnsumption specs is a little misleading as i was only able to match it if i drove ont he highway. Full tank, about 200 km (NSH), topped up, almost 15 km/l for 1.6 A avante.

After driving the Avante for a month, especially after servicing the car @ Shell Autoserv. I discovered that the FC was much lower than what SGCarMart's review - SPECIFICATION for Avante.
According to the website, it states officially the SPECS of Avante:-
Performance
Acceleration 10.8s (0-100kmh)
Top speed 185kmh
Fuel consumption 16.1 km\L
However the FC was much lower than it states. It's about 11km/L after servicing the car.
That's 31.67% reduction in FC efficiency!

Avante is an abbreviation for:-
Advanced
Vivid
Automotive
Nickname
The
Elantra
The fourth face-lift of the 1.6 Avante has slapped the Jap car makers and surprised the market by its thunder overtaking in market leadership.

Lousy FC im getting, 9+ on urban grounds. Whats more, i'm a manual and i don't rev, but maybe i'm the only one.

Upon starting up, the engine is very quiet and the rear seats are spacious.
Easy to operate gadgets without any hassle

It's my first Hyundai car...
All this while was driving Nissan and Proton...
Pity that, the Avante X20 that being sold locally doesn't have some of the main safety features option like Traction Control and 6 Airbags...
Anything else, the ride is compose, good and comfy...
My personal review...
