2.3 liter Mondeo

Review

The Ford Mondeo 2.3 liter engine is sourced from MZR. Aisin Warner 6 speed AT.

It is a good cruiser, but sadly unable to achieve its potential on local roads. Elegant design which able to captivates, its interior quality is good. 7 air bags for crash protection. However, Singapore models are usually lower specs.

Very spacious interior. Superior performance and power. Overtaking is a breeze. Almost a sports car struck in a saloon body. Luxury sedan, reasonable price.

Young man body with an old man look....

this is one car you either love it or hate it. Powerful, comfortable, spacious, good handling, smooth gear change. Nothing much we can ask for at that price. The car just look old, good if you don't want anyone to notice you on the road until they rev at you...lol

Interior is simple and looks like a century ago, the focus looks so much younger. But once engine started, this old man transform into a young beast, this is what we mean don't judge a book by it's cover.

Get pass the badge and the look, and it is a superb car..

I own a ford mondeo, mk3. A 2.5v6, this car has understated exterior looks, however, once you're inside the car, the interior upholstery and space is truly executive-class. When you compare the driving dynamics with its Japanese competitors such as Camry, Cefiro, this is a department where the Mondeo shines above many. I've driven all three and Mondeo is the best to-drive overall. In terms of its steering-feel and road-handling, it is comparable to more expensive German executive saloon. Taking consideration of its price, this is definitely a car to recommend if driving-fun is your top priority.

European Quality & Practicality

The Ford Mondeo has been the Car of the Year in UK ever since it was introduced. This Mk 4 face lifted Mondeo has lots of surprises up its sleeve waiting to be discovered. Related to the Volvo S80, the Mondeo has a long wheel base as well as being wide for more interior space and is extremely practical. No wonder families love them!

Now I know why it beat the Passat in some reviews

I test drove this car a few days ago and found it to be quite good. Although we did not go beyond the normal route, it was enough to leave quite an impression on me. The only issue potential buyers really have to deal with would be the FORD badge and branding. Can you live with the badge...this I pondered in the showroom that I had all but to myself....

I read a lot about the car prior to testing it out and for me the benchmark was the Passat. For cars in this price range and category, these are the 2 top selling cars in Europe and I read somewhere that the Passat lost out in the driving department and I wanted to find out.

The car is huge for a mid-range saloon and it was definitely roomy inside. Ford has come a long way and this car is nicely priced and kitted out and that is why it has traditionally done so well in the UK. Would I buy one? Maybe.

Mondeo Man Would Definitely Be Happy With This One.

The Ford Mondeo.

An Underrated (in Singapore) fantastic car this. The Mondeo Man would have no problem choosing this as his car over its competition. The Ford Mondeo has a huge reputation to mantain as a fun to drive car and it certainly has. The drive of the car is engaging and indeed, fun to drive. Steering is responsive and the chassis is the best in its class. The new 2.0 EcoBoost is strong and powerful, delivering 203 bhp. The Mondeo has fantastic performance in terms of handling and is fun to drive, something which its competitors cannot match. 6-speed Dual-clutch Powershift transmission delivers smooth and exceptional performance. Mondeo dimensions are relatively big too, with the interior being very spacious. Although this car comes with a generous amount of basic kit, it lacks some higher class kit like electronic parking brake and different driving modes (not that the latter is really needed). The interior is simple, easy to operate and fuss-free, but not as stylish as in a Insignia or Passat. The start/stop button has the word 'Power' on it which I like but the gear stick has the words 'Power shift' on it which I don't like. Interior fit and finishing is superb (like the Skoda model), with soft touch materials all round.

In comparison, the Insignia has the looks and power, but interior space and the handling, responsiveness of the car cannot match the Mondeo. Passat/Superb are both fabulous cars that comes close in threatening the Mondeo of its throne but loses out in terms of driving performance by just a little. C5/508 are great cars but they don't win the Mondeo. Yet again, the Mondeo has played its triumph card of being the best to drive. Overall, the Mondeo is a fantastic car and in comparison to the Insignia, Passat, Superb, C5 and 508, the Mondeo has came in top yet again.

The Mondeo Man would definitely be happy with this one.

The Economic Mondeo you should get.

Test driven this some weeks ago, the interior is simple and easy to operate.

When move off, this Mondeo simply sprung into live when u tap on the throttle, the cruising is smooth and although the roads are a little uneven, the suspension is agile enough to maintain stability (Even is not a SUV like the Kuga).

The drive was great, overtaking is EXCELLENT. Tried to overtake a car some miles away, the EcoBOOST engine with its PowerShift gearbox boost hand in hand once you throttle it and revs up to overtake at a breeze.

The interior just gives a basic features that a normal drive needs, without having expensive gadgets, thats why the price is affordable compared to other makes.

There is also a sports hatch as well but didnt get to see it. Boot space is adequate for the sedan and according to sales rep, their sports hatch has a slightly longer boot space and opens similar to the Audi A5 type.

Overall, its a great sedan to consider if you are looking for a normal family car to use that comes with power pack engine, good gearbox, good FC (according to the sales rep) and simple gadgets to use for daily drive.

I have the Ghia Hatchback version. This car handles like a dream and comparable/better to many much more expensive european marques. The doors close with a solid thud and the sound insulation is fantastic. The boot size is huge as the hatchback version opens very wide and the overall seating space is very luxurious. The Ghia comes with comfort, normal and speed modes and is laden with quite a number of features.
