You can now purchase the Volkswagen Passat sans Variant with the turbocharged 2.0-litre motor also used in the Golf GTI. We find out just how good this one is.
One of the seriously underrated cars in its class. The Passat is a sleek and modern family sedan with a very spacious interior which is on par with a Toyota Camry.
Power, refinement, build quality and fuel efficiency trumps its class rivals of a similar depreciation as well such the Mazda 6 2.0, Camry 2.0 and Accord 2.0.
Overall, a very enjoyable car to own and drive as it looks sleek and performs very well. It will be hard to find a replacement at such a price point when the COE ends.
Parts wise, many workshops carry VAG spares so they are readily available and parts cost has definitely dropped over the years with increased ownership of VAG cars.
Don't let the uninformed fool you into thinking VW is very unreliable. Every car brand even the Japs have their issues and their parts arent that cheap but just that every one is so used to saying VW = unreliable so thats how it's been.
Bought 2.0L R-Line. This is my 5th Volkswagen.
From Jetta 1.4 TSI (170 bhp), to Golf GTI MKV (200 bhp), to Scirocco 2.0 (210 bhp) to Golf 1.4 GT (170 bhp) to Passat 2.0 (220 bhp).
Wonderful car ownership experience thus far. All my cars were with the 6 speed DSG (wet clutch).
A very nice looking sedan with a powerful 2.0L engine and DSG 6 speed wet clutch gearbox.
Was pleasantly surprised that the infotainment interface has been upgraded to a touchscreen when the brochure is still showing the previous traditional system.
Actually test drove the R-Line Variant version as they do not have a 2L sedan for test drive. Pickup and ride comfort was very good and more than sufficient for the average driver like me.
Definitely among the top of my shortlist!!!
This car has been around for afew years new model coming out soon, but don't see much improvement on the new model.
Pretty good looking car out side, inside the dashboard is decent And well laid out. I Like the virtual cp display, pretty much like Audi, but there are some differences.
Double insulation on the front wind screen(that's whatt was told to me), making the car very quiet when driving. Rear seats space is one of the best in class, spacious fro 3 adults. Rear boot is also big. For a family sedan, it ticks all he boxes if you want a big real estates.
1.8 engine is pretty decent for Singapore roads. Power delivery is more than enoug and its pretty quiet.
The 2 liter engine, used in GTI, however delivery's a different drive. Very sporty, reach to launch forward, and when you accelerate heard the engine growl. If you prefer quiet go for the 1.8 engine. If sporty sound than the 2 liter will suit you.
