BYD Sealion 7 Electric

The goodness of the car I need not even have to say. From SgCarmart review, just released 4 days ago, to all the international reviews, be it UK, HK, My reviews, Europe or Australia reviews, they largely pointed out the same - quality built, quality systems (include insulation), can be overly adequate equipped features, space and very competitive pricing. Downside, typically is the handling and feedback. Reliability - a very new car, so can hardly tell or judge now. One negative experience is not about the car but the services from Vantage Motors. Vantage Motors, as I understood, although it is a "dealer" status but they run more like a "principle" meaning BYD appoints them to manage all the After sales issues. Being that, I thought I could have greater piece of mine when I buy the car from them. Unfortunately, some months ago I got into an accident and had my car towed to Vantage for repair. Few things upset me since (1), I did not receive any call from Vantage after my car was in for 5 days. I was even wondering if I passed my keys to the wrong company. When I called up, the lady said the SA will call me back shortly and that was one day later. (2) When I asked the SA about the status, he only confirmed that the car is with them but when I asked when will my car be assessed, he said "call you shortly" and that is again days later (3) when I called again, this time the SA said roughly 1 month but insurance needs to come to assess first (4) if I recalled correctly the insurance assessment was only done on the first day of the 4th week (5) in the same week, I was told that there are parts shortage, so may take awhile say 2 weeks (6) now my car is with them for 9 good weeks and the status of repair is still not confirmed. I was even told that many of the BYD accident cars are being driven around because the parts are not available. Conclusion: BYD is a good car BUT if you can't afford to leave your car with them for 9 weeks or more, still counting, in the event you got into an accident, then please go for others.... Read More

From the looks of the car, it's easy to mistake this as a sports SUV with neck-breaker acceleration and sniper-precise handling. But no, this car drives just like your regular family SUV. It just happens to look like a track-ready sports car with the aggressive-looking headlight, sharp lines, and sloping roof. I had the privilege to test drive the Sealion 7 Premium for about 20 minutes. I must say, BYD really did a great job in providing great value for money in this model. Once you enter the cabin, every touch point feels premium to the touch. Everything is wrapped in soft leather. The leather seats are soft and cushy, and most importantly, it has ventilated seats! A godsend in Singapore. Passenger seats is spacious with plenty of leg room. Despite the sloping roofline, passengers at the back still have reasonable amount of head room. Cover the brand logo on the steering wheel, and you may think that you are in a luxurious continental car. The drive is comfortable, but if you are expecting a sporty handling or fast acceleration because of the aggressive looks, you may be disappointed. 0-100km in 6+ seconds is by no means slow, but it is nothing to write home about. Your regular 2L ICE cars are pumping out such figures too, and that's a shame because if you are switching to an EV for the first time, the instant torque is probably one of the thing that gets you excited about, and this model doesn't give you that.
