I test drove this car weeks ago. The outside of the car looks great and the inside is comfortable. Ride very smooth. FC is abit of a problem but boot space is great when all 3 rows of seats are up.

Review
Me and my wife used to drive in US and middle east. We were used to cars where seating is spacious and comfortable. I used to drive a 2005 Odyssey while in Huston and found the car very useful, especially for long drives and family outings where I could take my outdoor kits with me.

When we moved to Singapore, we wanted to keep it to Honda due the reliability of the Honda brands and also due to the strong second hand market.

Reading the reviews on the new 2009 Odyssey and the new rear light and the new front, we decided to go to KM and order the car. Me and my wife took test drives even with the lack of things we expected from the reviews, we liked the power range, it was more smooth than my earlier model. We placed the order and took the delivery.

After a month of delivery, I went in for the 1st service and in the second month, we took the car to Phuket, with 5 people in Odyssey together with another Japanese made saloon. The driving comfort and passenger comfort was very good. It took to the potholes with ease and even when I touched 200KMPH the car felt solid. As there were few single lane roads in Thailand en-route to Phuket, it was a pleasure to overtake other vehicles, the torque of the car was excellent, it gave me more confidence to overtake other cars with ease, just press the throttle a bit more the car will accelerate smoothly to overtake the car in the front.

Except for the issues I faced with the gearbox in P-mode on a downhill or uphill. The car was very good

I took the car to KM recently for my 2nd service and I was able to recreate the symptoms I faced in Phuket. Every time when I stopped on a downhill the vibrations were heavy, depending on the steepness of the downhill the vibrations varied, more steep more vibration. When the service adviser tested the test Odyssey in the showroom, it also had the same problem with gear box. It was a certain that there is some problem with the gearbox which is recurring in all Odysseys, based on the feedback I received from other Honda owners (excluding Odyssey), they did no had this issue. It seems that the issue is only with Odyssey.

KM have assured me that they will look into this discuss with their engineers and get back. Apart from this I am happy with the car, even with this issue, I am positive that Honda will resolve it. I would anytime recommend this car to my friends.

What I like
Power delivery. Engine smoothness. The passenger comfort is excellent. The exterior(rear and front). e lack of things we expected, we liked the power range, it was more smooth than my earlier model. We placed the order and took the delivery. The KM sales person was very accomodative with my requirements for delivery dates and few goodies were thrown it. We liked the way the sales women dealt with us. No un-necessary pushing and we felt she as very genuine person.

There were few single lane roads in Thailand enroute to Phuket, it was a pleasure to overtake other vehicles, the tourque of the car was excellent, it gave me more confidence to overtake other cars with ease, just press the throttle a bit more (no need to floor the accelerator), the car will accelerate smoothly to overtake the car in the front. The new engine was really good, giving you the power when you need it, but in a matured fashion.

What I do not like
I was expecting the car with the new engine the 2.4ltr engine mounted to the much raved CVT, the futuristic display unit with lane changing alarms, wrap around camera and all the other goodies I have been reading in the reviews. It was my bad assumptions, I should have tried to read the reviews of the Singapore car. The absence of 2009 original display (replaced by a local Alpine system), no CVT but using the older gear box and absence of other things surprised me. It looked like a PI, except for the seats which were still the originals.

During my drives in Phuket,I had to stop on a steep downslope. I braked and put the gear to "P" and released the bake, the car started to vibrate heavily and you could feel the engine momentum being transferred to the gear and wheels, you could feel the car trying to move downhill even with the with gear in P. It was very unusual. The car felt as is it is about to roll over the Parking gear. It was a bit scary as well, I pressed the parking break and foot break pedal and tried to bring the gear from P to N, and gear moved to N, but with a big jerk with a loud sound. Once the gear was in N, the vibrations stopped. I tried to put the gear in to P again and the vibration started. The same issue repeated itself. I took the car to a level road and tried it again, no issues. I tried to Park the car in an uphill no vibrations by the big jerk and the sound when moving the gear from P was still there. I thought this was an issues with my car only.

For an mpv this is one ride that gives u excellent handling and power. On long trips u even forget that ur driving a 'soccer-moms' car. Such is the excellent engine although there is some notable lag time frm when u floor the pedal for it to actually kick in. But honestly, its an mpv so we have to be realistic here. At cruising speed this car is absolutely brilliant, a good car to take up north with it stability and no problems at all driving it up to 170 to 180km/h. My only issue is that since its a long car, when u step a lil too hard on the brakes the car jerks forward more than necessary. Another issue is that fuel economy isnt that great, i understand that it a 2.4 litre car so im not asking much but i average between 7.5 to 8km/l. But when driving it light footed im able to get abt 9km/l... Dont let this long car fool u, for an mpv it actually allows u to drive this baby spiritedly. It feels like ur driving a sedan. Not many mpvs allow u that... Such was the performance and durability of the previous odyssey engine. Honda decided to retain the exact same engine currently being used in the current 2009 odyssey, albeit a couple of tweaks.-moms' car. such is the excellent engine although there is some notable lag time frm when u floor the pedal for it to actually kick in. but honestly, its an MPV so we have to be realistic here. at cruising speed this car is absolutely brilliant, a good car to take up north with it stability and no problems at all driving it up to 170 to 180km/h. my only issue is that since its a long car, when u step a lil too hard on the brakes the car jerks forward more than necessary. another issue is that fuel economy isnt that great, i understand that it a 2.4 litre car so im not asking much but i average between 7.5 to 8km/l. but when driving it light footed im able to get abt 9km/l... dont let this long car fool u, for an MPV it actually allows u to drive this baby spiritedly. What I like
Excellent handling

Good ride comfort

fits 7 adults comfortably

Weighted steering

Nice engine note

Realibility

What I do not like
2 airbags seems insufficient

Not very fuel economical as compared to a Toyota Wish.
But then again a Wish wouldnt tolerate u driving it like a sedan.

Honda's dont seem to want to change their keys to smart keys. The older keys are too much of a bore.

This review is based upon the previous Odyssey before Kah Motor brought in this new model.

The Odyssey's low platform and wishbone suspensions are excellent for comfort. It makes me feel like I am driving a normal sedan rather than a MPV. The styling of this car is great and I am really impressed.

The driving experience of this car is rather good. The engine is rather quiet but it the sound damping of the cabin needs to be improved. The seats are extremely comfortable for it's class and have 2nd and 3rd row air conditioning brings the comfort up one stage. The dashboard and gauges are bright and have excellent visibility at night.

Reliability is excellent. No problems at all until the day when we were about to sell it, the Airbags/Seat belt tensioners start failing. The dashboard keeps lighting the icon up. Other than that, reliability is excellent.

Now, for the downsides of this car. I have nothing to complain about the styling. However, the boot opening is a little bit awkward. It is kinda, round; making it difficult to put things in. (This is improved in this new 2009 model) Other than that, 3rd row automatic folding seats are excellent and hassle free.

Next, FC. As rated here, 11.2km/l is really different from what I experienced. With combined highway and city driving, it can be as bad as 4.8km/l from the meter reading. I am not sure if there is a fault with the computer reading but my dad himself feels that we are visiting the petrol station more often. Having 4.8km/l for a 2.4L i-VTEC is really bad. I guess it is improved in this new model as stated by Honda.

The next problem is safety. 2 airbags for the driver & front passenger are definitely not enough. Side and curtain airbags would be greatly appreciated for a family car. The whole family have to be protected. Not just front passengers.

The last problem for me is the power of this car. Once again, it is improved in the new model. The old model has 160bhp and only 218nm of Torque. BHP does not matter to me but the amount of pulling power (218nm) is disappointing for an MPV. When going up a little steep hill, the car loses breath easily. Other than that, normal driving is excellent.

All in all, this car is superb. I strongly recommend it to people looking for a sedan like MPV. (:

Owned this car from 2004 and sold it in 2009 to change to the Volvo XC90.

What I like
Almost everything about this car. What you pay is what you get. (: No doubt.

What I do not like
Fuel Consumption. - I would not complain if it returns 8km/l but 4km/l is scary. As bad as a Bentley.

Safety - 2 Airbags are not enough. Since this car is low, testing have to be conducted during side collisions with higher vehicles like the CRV.

Boot opening.

Other than that, this car is EXCELLENT. Strongly recommended.

Basically, if you are looking for a MPV, you can't go wrong with this. It has great engine and ride is very comfortable. It can seat 7 persons easily and still got sufficient boot space.

What I like
1) Powerful and quiet engine
2) Ride comfort
3) Lots of space

Basically everything!

What I do not like
1) Designers should redesign the back. Somehow, it looks like the Subaru Exiga.
2) Fuel economy for me is about 8.3 km/l. I think it should be better for a Honda engine.
3) 2nd row seats are a little hard to maneuver for passengers to move into the 3rd row.
