Owned vios for 1.5yrs and i sold it with low price! Interior finishing is damn poor! Less than 2k mileage, there is lots of clicking or cranking sound! Went down to borneo and they said
What I like
Nothing except vvti engine!
What I do not like
Everything! vios is 1.5 out of 10 to me!

Had been driving the G model for well over a week. Noise level comparatively lower than the E mod which I had tested before. Read in forums that there is more extensive sound proofing in the G mods. Also comes with split folding seats and steering wheel vol control.
Had managed to hit around 13.8km for a new car with 45 city / 55 HW driving.
What I like
Fuel efficient, acceptable noise level when crusing.
Foldable rear seats
What I do not like
Bland interior.
Air con have limited function.
Audible engine noise when accelerating (1st to 2nd gear)
Long wait to collect the car - nearly 3 months :(
Only 4 speed auto...

Looks of the car: stylish but not sporty. Must spend abit of cash to have it make up to look more sporty.
Performance of the car: compare to most of the 1.5 litre cars, the response is good, powerful engine even without mod, must change to at least 16" rims to have a more stable corner, fuel consumption is super low and eco saving.
What I like
The performance of the VVTi engine. It's really superb!
What I do not like
There is nothing i don't like about this car.
No regret purchasing this car from start till now.

Looks like a "auntie" car to you. Some car that your neighbour mum will drive to market.
Good engine response. Built is good. Value for money.
What I like
Lively engine. Toyota reliability
What I do not like
Its just plain ugly inside and outside.

Firstly the exterior is not as good looking as it's predecessor. It somehow looks more girl-lish than before.
Interior has a good design and layout but the build quality is not something we expect from a Toyota. The interior is cover with hard plastic all over. From dashboard to door trim to driver's arm rest. Basically it feels so cheap.
Apart from that, I don't understand why this vios insulation can be worse than its predecessor. Step on the throttle and the engine starts roaring and intruding into the cabin. That is not a good way to save money during production, Toyota.
However it really makes up for its fuel economy with 13-14km/l easily attained even you are heavy footer. This car feels light and agile. The engine is able to pull the weight of the body within any sign of strain.
What I like
Good fuel economy
Flat rear floor
Interior layout
What I do not like
Cheap interior plastic
Loud engine roar
Poor insulation
Not as good looking as predecessor

It's a Sport E Auto. It has decent pick up speed and value for money car. Engine can be quite noisy when go heavy on accelerator. Cannot ask for too much for this economical car.
What I like
- Sporty looking
- Gd FC (But i am still dealing with only 11km/litre even when i am a light footer. Strange)
- Flat rear passenger flooring
What I do not like
- Poor sound insulation.
- Small wheels (i guess they are small for better FC)
- Low roof

Our 1st Toyota for the family and I thought it will be good to review after 1 year "abusing" it.
It was a J model with Sports Kit freebies which we thought it was a good deal that time.
Still serves us well as a mean of transport and not comfort or pleasure.
You get what you pay.
What I like
1. Fuel efficiency 13-14km/l which was a God send plus when petrol was >$2/litre
2. Spacious back seat that allows lots of stuff to be carried & load
3. Compact size makes it a breeze to park and manuevere
4. Good sales engineer service
What I do not like
1. Sound proofing bad (speed >60km) & engine din (rev >3K) of the interior
2. Cheap plastic moulding & fitting interior
3. Old engine being used and still 4 speed Auto transmission
4. Expensive servicing at Borneo Motors

Just got this car close to 3weeks, a brand new G model. Pleasant drive with reasonable FC, 14km/L.
The service at Borneo delivery centre, West Coast, friendly and courteous.
Except the arm rest between the front driver/passenger seat is far too short, others are worth the value which i paid 42K for this size of car.
Other user friendly features are audio control on steerling, fuel consumption calculator, pretty good hi-fi system, boot space, rear flatted floor etc.
What I like
Sound system;
Fuel consumption;
Comfortable seat;
Spacious room;
What I do not like
Arm Rest, too short for front passenger

noisy engine
small and cramped.

This is my first car and I have driven for more than 2 months. It is fuel efficient with 13-14km/L. This is very important as my job requires me to travel around often. The exterior design is very nice and sporty. The seats are leather made. However, what I dun like is that the sound insulation is very poor. Overall, this car is super worth for money and I did not regret buying this car.
What I like
Good Fuel Consumption - this is the most important thing that I look out for.
Nice exterior and looks sporty.
What I do not like
Poor sound insulation.

Just to note, this is the 2nd car i've driven after I've passed my class 3 license. I'm writing this review based on the Vios(A).
A slight problem i had with the car is that when O/D is ON(default), the car changes gears very late. On heavy acceleration, the RPM goes up to as high as 6K RPM before it changes gears. Shouldn't O/D be switched OFF on default? Once O/D is switched OFF, the car is very smooth and the RPM doesn't go past 4k RPM..
Since its the 2nd car i've driven, i must say that the FC of the Vios a great because for a heavy footer like me, i managed an average of 12km/L.
What I like
-Good FC 12km/L
-The meters in the center of the dashboard
-Comfortable enough for a big sized guy like me
What I do not like
-Poor sound insulation above 70km/h
-O/D function should be switched off by default

For the driver and front passenger's seats are still ok for middle size people.
What I like
FC - Its good, I guess for Toyota small sedan car is ok.
Price - Quite reasonable.
What I do not like
The interior design -
The meter in the middle, cannot place too many things.
The rear passengers' seats are very cramp.
The roof, more than 1.75m height people, please sit infront.
Engine/air con - Needs to warm up for a while before can start moving.

Review
The Toyota Vios is one of the most handsome Japanese compact sedan that I had drove.
However, my first impression for this compact sedan is not perfect. The hand brake lever is very very loose, it should not happened to a test drive unit that should be well maintained by the showroom.
The steering feels too light, accompanied with the ordinary stock tyres will cause lack of confidence in tight corners.
Driver's space is very tight, slim front seats and driver's foot room highlights a typical problem with Japanese compact sedan. Sound insulation material is rather poor resulting harsh engine noise even when travelling at crusing speed.
The exterior looks is cheerful and stylish and looks like a mini Toyota Camry in some ways.
Thanks to the popularity of the Toyota Brand, spare parts are cheap and readily available.
The Toyota Vios is good for city driving with good fuel efficiency but may not be suitable for long distance travel or long hours driving as the low comfort will likely to cause driver fatigue.
What I like
Fuel efficient engine, stylish exterior looks. Cheap and easy to maintain.
What I do not like
Tight driver's space due to lacks of creativity in interior design, sound insulation have much room for improvement.
| Overpriced Rebadged Belta | Posted on 31 Jul 2008 | ||

Review
The Vios is essentially a rebadged Toyota Belta assembled in Thailand.
Sales of the Belta from Parallel Importers was very bad and people commented about its ugly looks.
But the moment Borneo Motors brought in this model and rebadged it a VIOs, it started moving off the shelves like hot cakes.
This 'New' Vios engine is a carry over from the previous model Vios, which shares the same outdated engine as the Toyota Corolla 1.5 which was launched in S'pore in 2000.
Other than the flat rear passenger floor which is a plus, the Vios is fitted with poor quality plastics of questionable quality and is noisy with zero insulation on its firewall (the part separating the engine from the interior cabin).
This 'New' Vios which carries a S$10,000 premium over the previous model, and shares the same engine, is basically a rip off which sells purely on the Toyota branding alone.
Thee are many better buys out there at the same price that comes with a newer engine, is similarly or more spacious, and is manufactured in Japan - Suzuki SX4, Nissan Latio, Daihatsu Materia (Using a Toyota engine), Mazda 2 etc.
What I like
- Flat rear passenger floor
- 5 year warranty from Borneo Motors (But you risk voiding your warranty if you service your car outside during the 5 yr warranty period. Servicing at Borneo Motors can be expensive at over S$450 (incl GST) for 40,000 major servicing)
What I do not like
- Noisy cabin
- Rough engine
- Insufficient insulation
- Interior Cabin plastics of questionable quality
- Thin metal
- Way overpriced for a Thai assembled product
