  • First female Lexus Chief Engineer shares insights on new CT200h

The first female Chief Engineer for Lexus shares her inspirations behind the new CT and her views on why it has become a market favourite.

Having worked with Toyota Motor Corporation for over 12 years, Ms. Chika Kako was assigned to be the Chief Engineer of the Lexus CT200h in June 2012.

As the first female Chief Engineer for Lexus, there was considerable responsibility on Ms. Chika's shoulders to ensure that the new version advanced the standards set by its predecessor, which was introduced in 2010 as the world's first compact full hybrid luxury car.

A key priority during the car's revamp was adjusting to young consumers' distinct fashion preferences, without compromising driving performance, comfort or functionality.

The new CT adopted a distinctive spindle grille and a sportier design as it was brought in line with Lexus' L-finesse design philosophy of 'incisive simplicity', 'intriguing elegance' and 'seamless anticipation'. This was key in meeting Lexus' new generation consumers' demand for sporty exteriors and luxurious interiors.

In designing the CT, it was also important to have a highly rigid body in order to optimise spring rates with shock damping to achieve proper balance between dynamic handling and riding comfort.

But Lexus' promise of amazing performance without compromise is best exemplified by one striking feature that sets the CT200h apart from others in the class - its fuel consumption. Equipped with the super-efficient Lexus Hybrid Drive powertrain, the 2014 CT200h boasts class-leading fuel efficiency.

Encapsulating precision and exemplifying sustainable luxury, the Lexus CT200h reinforces Lexus' commitment to craftsmanship and bespoke experiences.
