The highly anticipated Mercedes-AMG GT is the second sports car developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG (AMG). Its front mid-engine concept and intelligent aluminium lightweight construction form the basis for a highly dynamic driving experience, while a newly developed AMG 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo engine underscores the hallmark AMG driving performance.

Stand out design features of the sports coupe - available in GT and a more powerful GT S - include the dome-shaped, arched roof line and the frameless doors.

A muscular element sculpted out of the side wall creates a sense of lightness and dynamism, even when the vehicle is stationary. The surfaces and lines of the side wall flow into the rear end with a dramatic tapered effect.

The taillights now feature new turning signals sequentially illuminating 18 individual LEDs from the inside to the outside. The black diffuser insert with tailpipes integrated into the bumper and the trim strip in matt iridium silver inspired by the A-wing in the front create a visual sense of lightness across the entire tail end.

The cabin of the AMG GT is designed around an enhanced 'aviation design' theme. The cabin is dominated by the width of the dashboard, which creates an impression of a powerful wing.

The styling of the centre console is reminiscent of a NACA air intake while a wide range of diverse materials have been used, including silver chrome, matt carbon fibre, high-gloss carbon fibre, black diamond and matt silver fibreglass. The AMG DRIVE UNIT control switches are arranged akin to a V8 engine layout - to further emphasise the powerful and high-tech impression made by the centre console.

A luggage capacity of 350 litres is adequate to accommodate two golf bags while an aluminium cross strut behind the seats prevents the cargo from sliding forward.

The 4.0-litre V8 bi-turbo engine - developed specifically for the AMG GT - is configured with two output ratings: 462bhp and 600Nm of torque in the GT and 510bhp with 650Nm of torque in the GT S.

The power ratings correspond instantly with a 3.8-second century sprint and a top speed of 310km/h for the AMG GT S as well as four seconds and 304km/h for the AMG GT.

The concept with front mid-engine and transmission in transaxle configuration makes for a beneficial weight distribution of 47 to 53 percent between the front and rear axle.

The engine is linked to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT seven-speed sports transmission and comes standard with a mechanical rear-axle locking differential and an electronically controlled rear-axle locking differential for the AMG GT and AMG GT S respectively.

Braking services are provided by a high-performance composite brake system. On the AMG GT they are internally ventilated, perforated 360mm brake discs all-round; while the AMG GT S adopts 390mm discs at the front with red brake callipers. An optional ceramic high-performance composite brake system - 402mm front, 360mm rear - is also available for both models for lighter weight, longer service life and even better fade resistance.
