Higher toll rates at the Causeway has now taken effect. Following the rise in toll rates for vehicles entering Johor via the Causeway in August, vehicles bound for Singapore now have to pay a higher toll charge too.
A round trip to Johor via the Causeway by car now costs around $13.10.
The Straits Times observed smooth traffic into Malaysia as per normal on Wednesday past midnight. More than 10 Singapore-registered cars were also spotted pumping petrol in Malaysia just past the Causeway at about 12:45am.
Speaking to the local papers, 45-year old Mr. Jainudin Samuri, a personal driver, think he will reduce the frequency of his visits to Malaysia due to the higher costs. He currently visits his relatives across the Causeway three times a week.
However, another Singaporean, 31-year old Mr. Ang, thinks the higher toll rates may effectively reduce congestion along the Causeway.
