Borneo Motors Singapore has reintroduced the ES range in Singapore after a seven-year hiatus. The Lexus ES was one of the first two original models (alongside the flagship LS) introduced during the brand's inauguration in 1989 and has come to be one of the world's best-selling models with more than 1.4 million units sold globally. Designed to exude the Essence of Luxury with a focus on refinement, luxurious space and ride comfort, the new sixth generation Lexus ES is set to raise the benchmark in the mid-luxury segment.
Elegantly styled, the car is inspired from the Lexus LS, as evident from its dramatic, forward thrusting spindle grille, L-shaped daytime running light and tail lamps, and a sleek coupe-like side profile.
Class-leading rear leg and knee room are hallmarks of the redesigned ES cabin. The wheelbase of the new ES has been lengthened by 46mm while the overall vehicle length increased by 25mm, resulting in a more spacious cabin.
Front seat backboards have also been optimised with knee contours. As a result, leg room has been increased by 104mm and knee room by 71mm. And thanks to an innovative roof head-lining, rear passengers enjoy an increased rear head clearance by 19mm, even with a standard moonroof in place. Last but not least, ergonomically designed seats provide the ideal support for both driver and passengers for a luxurious comfort ride.
Hand-crafted Genuine Stitching, a Lexus-First technique, is applied to the instrumental panel upholstery of the ES, harmonising the high technology feel within the cabin with a graceful sense of human touch. The stitching is simple and elegant, but the work that goes into it is tremendous - a demanding task that requires skill, patience and a test so unique that only 12 Lexus master craftsmen (takumi) in the world have been deemed qualified.
Featuring an electric power steering with optimised steering ratio, new shock absorbers and a more responsive suspension system developed from scratch, the new ES delivers excellent handling and stability for an ultra smooth and refined ride. Excellent aerodynamic performance contributes to an exceptionally low drag coefficient of 0.27, further enhancing ride smoothness and fuel efficiency.
The ES body is composed of high-tensile steel and lightweight aluminium components paired with additional bracings and optimised weld pints to create body rigidity and precise handling. New sound absorbing materials and a tuned engine intake reduce cabin noise to deliver a serene interior and luxurious cabin experience.
For the first time ever, besides the ES250 petrol model, which is powered by a 2.5-litre petrol engine delivering 184bhp, the new ES range will include a hybrid model. Boasting a quieter, smoother yet more powerful ride, the new ES Hybrid elevates the Lexus ES as a class apart, while strengthening Lexus' leadership in hybrid offerings.
Powered by the world's most advanced powertrain, the Lexus Hybrid Drive, the ES Hybrid combines a 2.5-litre Atkinson cycle engine with two high-output electric motors to produce 205bhp, delivering seamless acceleration, supreme ride smoothness and quietness, all while maintaining a class-leading fuel efficiency of 5.5L/100km. CO2 emissions (combined) are exceptionally low at 130g/km, entitling the ES Hybrid to a $10,000 CEVS rebate.
