The Skoda VisionS concept car celebrated its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show 2016, with the emotive concept car offering an insight into a new large Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) production model that will be launched in the autumn of this year.
The Skoda VisionS incorporates the brand's new design language, carrying it over into the SUV segment: the design is clearly influenced by Czech Cubism and the tradition of Bohemian crystal art, with precise and sharp lines.
Another highlight of the concept vehicle is its plug-in hybrid drive - the 1.4-litre TSI engine works with a 40kW electric motor to produce 225bhp. It is integrated into the six-speed DSG transmission, which directs the power to the front wheels.
A second electric motor with up to 85kW and 270Nm of torque drives the rear axle. This works independently of the front axle drive, meaning the car has a smart four-wheel drive, which requires no mechanical coupling.
The three engines cooperate in a highly flexible manner: the driver can choose between several modes of operation - from purely electric drive to charge modes, always with the goal of maximum efficiency. This allows the car to go 50km on electric power alone, and will travel up to 1,000km with both systems combined.
Aside from the future SUV design language, the concept car also demonstrates the most important technological innovations that Skoda will be focusing on in the coming years. Above all, these include electromobility, connectivity and safety.
