In the first Certificate of Entitlement (COE) bidding exercise in May, premiums for Cat A and B went up, while Cat E premiums fell slightly.
Premiums for Cat B, larger cars with more than 130bhp or engine displacement larger than 1,600cc, increased by $1,408 (2.8 percent) and ended at $51,010.
In Cat E, the open category, prices went down $501 (one percent), with premiums closing at $49,000.
The increase in COE supply across the board was matched by an increase in the number of bids received, which accounted for the relatively small fluctuation in COE premiums. The biggest increase in quota was for Cat E, from 453 to 750, and Cat E premiums consequently fell slightly.
With COE premiums showing no drastic change, it seems that the demand for new cars is still holding fairly constant, as buyers continue to wait it out as more COEs become available over the next few bidding exercises.
