In its latest update at 8:08am, SMRT advised commuters to add 10 minutes of travel time from Tanah Merah towards Joo Koon stations along the East-West Line. It added that it was 'working to recover service' and that train services were 'still available'. The disruption along this stretch began at 7:14am and was attributed to 'a track fault', but there had been a separate fault along the same line earlier on Friday.
According to SMRT's Twitter, there were no train services from as early as 5:33am on Friday between Outram Park and Aljunied MRT stations, due to a traction power fault near Bugis. SMRT provided free regular bus and bridging bus services between the affected stations in the morning. Service resumed between Outram Park and Aljunied MRT stations 10 minutes later.
A track fault had occurred on the East-West Line at 7:29pm on Thursday (22nd December) as well. Commuters took to social media to express their frustration. Twitter user Chester Choy wrote that he 'woke up earlier only to enjoy SMRT's fault in maintenance' while @CoweyGay implored SMRT to 'do something to your tracks'.
