At a captivating event held at the Ritz Carlton, Millenia Singapore Hotel on 14th July 2017, the Eurokars Group officially launched the all new Mazda CX-5. The original CX-5 was the first of a new generation of models to feature the 'KODO: Soul of Motion' design and SkyActiv technology, both of which are driven by Mazda's vision and pursuit of providing all its customers with superior driving pleasure, as well as outstanding environmental and safety performance.
The all new CX-5's driving dynamics and chassis design have been greatly enhanced to provide a more refined ride that is insulated against noise, and to strengthen the unity between driver and car; or Jinba-Ittai (horse and rider as one). Mazda's SkyActiv-G engine and six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmission have also been improved, with better throttle control and responsiveness, further accentuating the Jinba-Ittai experience.
The all new CX-5 further evolves the Kodo design language under the theme of 'refined toughness' with its bold, muscular and sporty body that is elegant and graceful at the same time. A wide stance with a low centre of gravity plants the car to the ground while lending it a purposeful and defined look.
What further sets it apart is the new colour - Soul Red Crystal - which was created by Mazda Design to complement the beauty of the CX-5 form. Soul Red Crystal is the third Takumi (artisan) paint colour that is adopted by Mazda, and will eventually be available throughout its model lineup.
The all new CX-5's 10-speaker Bose Premium audio system - co-developed by Mazda and Bose - delivers performance, clarity and unparalleled aural delight; and provides the 'Spirited Sound' experience that Mazda is seeking to implement across its range. Other notable features include an Active Driving Display, a powered liftgate and an auto-hold function.
Mazda's SkyActiv-Body has earned much admiration for its rigidity and refinement. By increasing the torsional stiffness of the chassis by 15 percent, CX-5 engineers were able to isolate unwanted road imperfections that would otherwise find their way into the cabin. The chassis stiffness also allowed them to revise the suspension to optimise it for greater levels of comfort.
Through the use of ultra high-tensile steel, the all new CX-5 comes with significant improvements in body strength. Thicker sheet metal, in addition to a greater amount of sound suppression material, helps to minimise road and tyre noise.
Additionally, it provides a more rigid platform that allowed Mazda engineers to focus on recalibrating the suspension, thus refining the driving experience and rendering more precision in terms of body control without compromising handling dynamics. The all new CX-5's suspension system uses Macpherson struts in the front and a multi-link system in the rear.
The all new CX-5 comes equipped with G-Vectoring Control technology - the first technology in Mazda's new SkyActiv-Vehicle Dynamics series - as well as a host of i-ActivSense advanced safety technologies such as Adaptive LED Lights, Blind Spot Monitoring and Smart City Brake Support.
The all new Mazda CX-5 is available in two variants - a 2.0L 2WD 6AT, which comes in Standard and Premium trims, and a 2.5L 2WD 6AT, which comes in Luxury and Super Luxury trims. The 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G puts out 162bhp and 210Nm of torque, completing the century sprint in 10.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 182km/h. The 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G puts out 192bhp and 257Nm of torque, sprinting from 0-100km/h in 8.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 196km/h. Both engines are mated to six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmissions.
