Volkswagen has launched the all new Volkswagen Touareg, now in its third generation, at the Singapore Wine Vault today.
The Touareg is the brand's all new flagship and is the most technologically advanced Volkswagen to date. Comfortable and dynamic, it comes with the latest safety and driver assistance features along with a fresh new design.
Making its debut at the launch is the Touareg R-Line - the top-of-the-line variant. Including the R-Line, two other trims will be available here - the Touareg Elegance and the Touareg Atmosphere.
The third generation Touareg features a new and expressive design, that reflects its positioning as the flagship SUV of the brand.
Compared with its predecessor, the new Touareg is moderately wider, longer and lower, its dimensions are now 1,984mm, 4,878mm and 1,717mm respectively. Despite its larger footprint than before, the Touareg is now 106kg lighter, thanks to the use of aluminium in its architecture.
Up front, you will find its chromed solid grille, seamlessly integrating into the head lights. On the top-spec R-Line trim, these head lights are the all new IQ.Light LED Matrix system, which consists of 128 individual diodes. With Dynamic Light Assist, the head lights are able to actively illuminate the road ahead, selectively cutting off the main beam lights from dazzling incoming road users.
On the inside the Touareg offers a high level of craftsmanship and quality, fusing together its new assistance and technological features.
The main differences between the Touareg's Atmosphere and Elegance trim levels can be found on the inside.
Atmosphere features a lounge-like experience, where wood and natural tones corresponds with its Atacama Beige interior. The Elegance and R-Line trim features Soul-Black leather upholstery with brushed aluminium inserts.
The Touareg features the latest 15-inch Discover Premium infotainment system, coupled with the 12.3-inch Active Info Display digital instrument cluster.
Its 15-inch touchscreen allows for the convergence of information and settings of essential vehicle functions into one matrix. Climate control and even the viewing options of the digital instrument cluster are all controlled via the Discover Premium system. The Touareg R-Line also features a 13-speaker Dynaudio Consequence audio system.
Personalisation is taken to the next level in the Touareg - a total of seven driver profiles can be saved in the car. Settings such as the temperature, seat height and driving profiles can be personalised at the touch of a button.
In addition, the ambient lighting in the front footwell, door sill protectors and light strips below the trim in the doors and dashboard can be adjusted, from up to 30 different shades to set the right tone for the journey.
The Active Info Display is also customisable via the infotainment system, from a classic instrument dial view to a full map display with GPS guidance.
A head-up display accompanies its function, and is currently the largest display of its type from Volkswagen.
The Touareg also features new driver assistance features. Semi-automated driving is also available on the Touareg R-Line through the Traffic Jam Assist system. This is created through the fusion of Lane Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control.
All Touareg models available at launch will be powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 TSI engine, putting out 335bhp and 450Nm through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
4Motion permanent all-wheel drive will feature in all Touareg models. The system includes a centre differential lock with dynamic torque distribution acting as a transfer box, which can send up to 70% of torque to the front wheels, or 80% to the rear wheels.
The Touareg R-Line offers higher-tech running gear. Air suspension with Dynamic Chassis Control helps to optimise the Touareg's aerodynamics, by lowering the car by 15 to 25mm when speeds exceed 120km/h.
Ride height can be adjusted for off-roading purposes by up to 70mm, while a loading function offers the Touareg R-Line to lower itself up to 40mm for easier rear boot access.
All-wheel steering is also fitted as standard for the Touareg R-Line, offering improved agility at high speeds and manoeuvrability in slow speeds. Thanks to this feature, the turning radius of the Touareg is reduced by one metre - at 11.19m.
All three exclusive trim lines of the all new Touareg are available through Volkswagen Centre Singapore.
