  • Audi unveils its first compact SUV coupe: The new Q3 Sportback

The new model will combine the strong presence and versatility of an SUV with the sporty elegance and agile handling of a coupe.

Audi is adding a compact SUV coupe shape to its model range: The Audi Q3 Sportback. The new model combines the strong presence and versatility of an SUV with the sporty elegance and agile handling of a coupe. This makes it the first compact crossover from the Audi brand.

The low roofline on the Sportback gives way to flat D‑pillars and ends in a roof spoiler
On the exterior, the black octagonal grille sports a three-dimensional design, giving the car a sporty look. The same applies for the trapezoidal air inlets and the expressive bumper with its flat blade. Distinctive attachments are also painted in contrasting colours to emphasize the SUV character.

At the back the low roofline gives way to flat D‑pillars and ends in a roof spoiler. At three centimetres shorter than its sister model the Q3, the Q3 Sportback looks longer and more muscular.

Above the wheels, strong contours draw attention to the quattro drive, which will come as standard with most engines.

Sport seats are also available on higher trim levels with contrasting stitching and coloured stripes along their side panels
The rear lights now run inwards in a tapered shape, just like the flat head lights. Audi also supplies the latter in three versions up to Matrix LED technology, with an adaptive high beam that intelligently illuminates the road as best suits the driving situation.

For the market launch in Europe, a gasoline and a diesel engine will be available for the Audi Q3 Sportback. The 2.0 TFSI will deliver 227bhp, while the 2.0 TDI has an output of 148bhp.

Additional engines will follow in the course of the year, including a more powerful diesel and an entry-level petrol engine, which will work together with a 48V mild hybrid system.

The volume of the luggage compartment on the Q3 Sportback is 530 litres, and can expand to 1,400 litres with the seats folded down. An electric tailgate that can also be opened and closed with a foot motion will be offered as an option. Electronically adjustable front seats come as standard, while sport seats are also available on higher trim levels with contrasting stitching and coloured stripes along their side panels.

Luggage space of 530 litres can be expanded to 1,400 litres with the rear seats knocked down
The Q3 Sportback will also be available with Audi damper control, which further expands the suspension's performance range between dynamism and comfort. Depending on the driving situation, road conditions, and personal preferences, the driver can vary the car's characteristics via Audi drive select, which will also include an off-road mode.

The Audi Q3 Sportback comes with a suite of safety systems including lane departure warning and the lane change warning. While the former helps the driver to remain in the lane, the latter points out critical situations when changing lanes, such as if there is a vehicle in the driver's blind spot.

Delivery of the Audi Q3 Sportback in Europe will start in the third quarter this year. In Germany, the price for the 35 TDI S tronic is €40,200 (approx. $61,169), while the 45 TFSI quattro S tronic is available in Germany from a starting price of €46,200 (approx. $70,300).
