The first ever Mercedes-Benz A-Class Saloon has been launched in Singapore, at an event set at Esplanade's Annexe Studio on 29 August 2019, amongst customers and members of the media.
With the launch of the sedan version of the A-Class, Mercedes-Benz now officially has four compact offerings under its authorised distributor, Cycle & Carriage Industries. It includes the A-Class hatchback, the CLA four-door coupe, and the B-Class.
Mercedes' new compact sedan fighter is a significant addition to the range, as it provides a more traditional compact sedan option compared to the more stylish and low-slung CLA.
The A-Class Saloon's exterior shares many visual similarities with the A-Class hatchback and the CLA. This includes the interior, where the A-Class Saloon sports the same two large 10.25-inch displays. The Saloon also comes with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system, with natural speech recognition features that can be activated by saying "Hey Mercedes".
The main difference is at the rear of the car. Compared to the CLA, the A-Class Saloon is less sculptured, and offers a slightly taller greenhouse. Thus, the A-Class Saloon offers 36mm more headroom at 944mm.
When it comes to boot space, the A-Class Saloon also trumps its hatchback sibling, offering a boot that's 50 litres bigger at 420 litres.
At launch, the A200 will be powered by a turbocharged 1.4-litre engine, producing 159bhp and 250Nm of torque. The A200 will also be offered in two trims - Progressive and AMG Line.
The A250, powered by a larger 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 218bhp and 350Nm of torque, will be offered in AMG Line trim.
