The Nissan Serena e-Power has been spotted around Ubi, signifying that Nissan's commitment to having a fully-electrified range of vehicles here by 2022 may soon come into full effect.

The Serena with e-Power badging was spotted at two locations over two days, at the Vicom inspection centre in Kaki Bukit last Friday, as well as within the compounds of Nissan's showroom in Ubi on Monday.

In both instances, the Serena e-Power displayed a 'Not For Sale' decal on the front and rear windows.

We believe that the Serena may be going through homologation, or is currently undergoing testing under the hands of Nissan staff.

First seen at the Singapore Motor Show in January, the Serena e-Power drive system consists of a petrol engine and an electric motor, and works in theory like an electric vehicle with a range extender.

But what is unique is that the Serena e-Power doesn't have the option to be plugged in to charge. Instead, it relies solely on the petrol engine to charge its batteries.

As of today, there is no other car in our market with such a powertrain, making the Serena e-Power a good choice for those looking out for an electric vehicle without the drawbacks of having to search for an electric charging station.

As a seven-seater MPV, its competitors include the parallel-imported Toyota Esquire, Noah, and Voxy, all of which offer hybrid powertrains.

Tan Chong Motor Sales, the authorised distributor for Nissan, has also included the Serena e-Power in its latest pricelist (as of 3 September 2019), further confirming that the Serena e-Power should come on sale soon. The Serena e-Power is expected to cost from $140,000 to $180,000, including COE.

Nissan announced at the Motor Show earlier this year that the Serena e-Power will be available in the second half of this year.
