  • Toyota unveils the all new Yaris

The new Toyota Yaris compact car will offer driving pleasure, the world's highest level of fuel efficiency, and advanced safety technology.

Toyota has unveiled the new Yaris. Scheduled to go on sale in Japan starting in February 2020, it will also be exhibited at VenusFort in Odaiba, Tokyo, during the Tokyo Motor Show 2019.

The new Yaris will be built on the TNGA GA-B platform
The new Yaris is Toyota's first car to adopt the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) GA-B platform for compact cars, which has been developed to be lightweight and highly rigid, with a low centre of gravity.

The platform achieves both superior handling stability and a high-quality ride by shedding up to 50kg of weight, while increasing torsional rigidity by 30% and lowering the centre of gravity by 15mm against the outgoing platform.

Three engines are to be offered - a 1.0-litre engine paired with a compact and lightweight Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), a 1.5-litre Dynamic Force Engine paired with a six-speed manual or a Direct Shift-CVT, and a 1.5-litre paired with a new hybrid system.

The cabin of the Yaris has been designed to minimise driver distraction and add an impression of width and spaciousness
The new 1.5-litre hybrid system is said to achieve the world's highest level of fuel efficiency for a hybrid vehicle, and will deliver propulsion through an electric four-wheel drive system which Toyota calls E-Four, a first for any Toyota compact car.

On the inside of the car, a clutter-free interior will allow the driver to concentrate on driving, while the thin cross section of the instrument panel is designed to give an added impression of width. This, together with the small diameter of the steering wheel, makes the cabin feel both spacious and sporty.

Turn Tilt Seats will also feature on the new Yaris, and are another Toyota first for the compact car. The seats will make it easier for the driver and front passenger to enter and exit the car by rotating and tilting outwards.

The new Yaris will come with Toyota Safety Sense as standard, along with a Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically brakes the vehicle after a collision has been detected, as well as Toyota's Advanced Parking Support System, which will allow the driver to park by only operating the shift lever.
