Wearnes Automotive has showcased the all new Bentley Flying Spur to members of the media at its new showroom on 45 Leng Kee Road today. The launch also marks the first time the Bentley Flying Spur is showcased in the Asia Pacific region.
Now in its third generation, Bentley says that the new Flying Spur is built from the ground up, with over 2,000 new parts being used.
Featuring a stronger, more muscular design, the new Flying Spur sits on a new platform that is shared with the current Continental GT.
The same aluminium superproofing process is used, allowing for more sculptured surfaces that aren't just visually appealing, but structurally stronger than before. The increased visual presence is also thanks to the Flying Spur's increased proportions, with a wheelbase that is longer by 130mm.
Taking centre stage up front is the Flying B mascot, available for the first time on the Flying Spur. Restyled for Bentley's Centenary year, the Flying B is illuminated, and can be electronically retracted.
The dashboard's sweeping horizontal veneer incorporates Bentley's 12.3-inch rotating infotainment display. When the engine start or display button is pressed, the veneer section in the middle of the dashboard rotates to reveal the screen, displaying three, customisable digital tiles.
On what Bentley calls a 'digital detox', the second side of the display set in wood veneer reveals three elegant analogue dials showing outside temperature, a compass and a chronometer.
The Flying Spur's all new seats feature a twin-flute design and increased functionality, including heating, ventilation, multi-mode massage, adjustable bolsters and top tilt. The rear seats provide a luxurious, cosseting travelling environment, with a folding centre armrest and manually deployed centre headrest that stows away when not in use.
At its heart, the Flying Spur is powered by Bentley's iconic 6.0-litre W12 engine, also used in the new Continental GT W12. Making 626bhp and an earth-moving 900Nm of torque to all four wheels, the Flying Spur will propel from nought to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds, on to a top speed of 333km/h. The engine is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The Flying Spur's four-wheel drive system is able to send up to 480Nm of torque to the front wheels depending on road conditions. In normal driving conditions, it sends power to the rear wheels, offering a more dynamic driving experience.
It also features electronic all-wheel steering as standard. In low speed situations, the rear wheels steer in the opposite direction to the front wheels, reducing the turning circle and increasing manoeuvrability.
The Bentley Flying Spur is currently on display at the Wearnes Automotive Centre.
Prices are expected to start from $969,000 without Certificate of Entitlement and options. Deliveries are expected to arrive in our shores by the second quarter of 2020.
