  • Hyundai reveals more of the new i20

Hyundai has revealed a completely new design for the i20, along with an electrified 48V mild hybrid powertrain for optimised efficiency.

Hyundai has revealed the first full pictures along with specifications for the new i20.

A bold character line and a unique C-pillar design feature on the side of the new i20
The images reveal the i20 sporting Hyundai's 'Sensuous Sportiness' design language, with dynamic-looking front and rear bumpers as well as a new radiator grille.

The side view also offers energetic proportions and a wedge style, which are amplified through a bold side character line and a unique C-pillar design. A redesigned lighting signature at the side now connects seamlessly with the rear, emphasising the new i20's width and stance.

Compared to its predecessor, the all new i20's proportions have been made more dynamic, while at the same time ensuring it is practical for navigating around busy urban areas. Its visual stance is improved by its lowered roof, wider body and increased length, while the car's wheelbase has also been increased by 10mm. This is further augmented by new designs for the 17-inch alloy wheels.

Horizontal blades covering the dashboard add to the sense of space in the interior

The interior has been designed to emphasise spaciousness, while appearing sculptured and appealing. One design highlight is the horizontal blades that cover the high and prominent dashboard, making the front fascia look slick and wide.

At the top of the range, a 1.0 T-GDi is available with 99bhp or 118bhp. Hyundai is also offering 48V mild hybrid technology with this engine, either as an option with the 99bhp or as standard with the 118bhp. The system will contribute to a 3% to 4% reduction of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The 48V system is available with a seven-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (7DCT) or a newly developed six-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT). The iMT decouples the engine from the transmission after the driver releases the accelerator, allowing the car to enter into coasting mode and saving fuel.

When not mated to the 48-volt mild hybrid system, the 1.0 T-GDi 99bhp is available with the 7DCT or a manual six-speed gearbox. A 1.2-litre MPi four-cylinder is also available as an entry engine. This offers 83bhp and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
