Land Rover has expanded the Defender range with a new plug-in hybrid model, the P400e.
The new drivetrain is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 296bhp and a 141bhp electric motor powered by a 19.2kWh battery. Combined, their total output is 398bhp, while delivering an all-electric range of 43km.
All Land Rover Defender P400e models will also get 20-inch alloy wheels, Electronic Air Suspension and a charging port located on the left-hand side of the vehicle.
A Mode 3 charging cable comes as standard, while an optional Mode 2 cable is also available.
The Mode 3 charging cable enables charging to 80% in two hours, while charging via a Mode 2 cable will take around seven hours to charge to 80% - perfect for home charging overnight. Using a 50kW rapid charger, the P400e charges to 80% capacity in 30 minutes.
The Defender P400e will continue to be able to offer both high and low range off-road capabilities in full electric mode.
Exterior accents on the X-Dynamic trim include Silicon Satin front and rear skid pans, a matching grille bar and badging plus Rear Recovery Loops finished in Satin Black. All alloy wheels for the X-Dynamic trim also come in Satin Dark Grey/Gloss Black finish, while the mirror caps, window decals and lower sill and wheel arch cladding are now finished in Narvik Black.
On the interior, the X-Dynamic trim also gets unique elements including illuminated metal treadplates and a new Robustec seat material in Duotone colour finish with Robustec ribbon accent and Console Finishers.
The new Robustec material is said to be inspired by workman's gloves and patches on motorbike jackets, and is hard-wearing and resistant to abrasions, with a hexagonal pattern and unique texture that is described as adding greater depth to the interior of the Land Rover Defender.
