Cat A COE - Premiums finally ease their upward climb
Premiums for Cat A, for cars up to 1,600cc in engine capacity and with an output of no more than 130bhp, decreased by $1,970 (5.1%) and ended at $36,534 this bidding round.This marks the first bidding session that has seen premiums for Cat A drop since they first started their upward trend in August 2020. Premiums for the category now stand at 11.5% above the 12-month trailing average.
The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 39%. This figure has averaged 54% for Cat A in the last 12 months.
Cat B COE - Premiums take a slight dip
Premiums for Cat B, for larger cars with more than 130bhp or engine displacements larger than 1,600cc, continued to slip. This bidding round saw Cat B premiums fall by $299 (0.7%) and ended at $40,690.This second drop sees the premium for this bidding round settling into the 83rd percentile of the 12-month trailing average, at 9.4% higher than the average for premiums of the last 12 months.
The total number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the quota available by 51%, which is only slightly higher than the 12-month average of 49%.
Cat C COE - Premiums rise a whopping $4,500
Premiums for Cat C, for goods vehicles and buses, increased by $4,500 (15.7%) to end at $33,089. Premiums for Cat C have not reached this high since the first bidding round of May 2018, where they reached $33,190.
Cat E COE - Premiums fall $700
In Cat E, the open category, premiums fell by $700 (1.7%), closing at $40,301.The premium for this bidding round now stands at 6.2% above the 12-month trailing average and is at the 74th percentile of the premiums of the last 12 months.
The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 61%, which is higher than the 12-month trailing average of 56%.

Prevailing Quota Premium
The Prevailing Quota Premium is the amount to be paid for COE renewal and is computed from the moving average of the previous three-months of COE prices. Those looking to renew the COE on their cars will thus have to pay the following prices for the respective months.
