NIO has unveiled its ET5, a new mid-size smart electric sedan.
The NIO ET5 is said to blend both performance and luxury with the joy of driving, while in the cabin, a cossetting second living space is offered. NIO also states the 'Ultralong range' battery-equipped variant will offer a range of 1,000km.
This is backed up by the rear ducktail spoiler and details including, flush doorhandles, soft close doors, and frameless windows that create cleaner lines and improve aerodynamic efficiency.
The cabin of the NIO ET5 meanwhile, has been designed around the concept of a 'second living room', inspired by trends in the world of furniture, fashion and footwear. Features here include a large glasshouse and a panoramic roof, which invite light into the interior's organic hues of Terracotta and fiery orange.
Ambient lighting with 256 different colour options will allow customers to set the mood as they wish, all complemented by a Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 surround sound system.
NIO states the ET5 also sports an industry first in-car entertainment system. Named PanoCinema, the panoramic and immersive digital cockpit utilises Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality technologies to facilite the use of AR glasses which can project an effective screen size of 201-inch at a distance of six meters. A 10.2-inch HDR instrument cluster boosts the vividness of images.
The NIO ET5 will utilise a 201bhp induction asynchronous motor in the front and a 282bhp permanent magnet motor at the rear. Total system power output thus stands at 483bhp, which is enough to send the ET5 from zero to 100km/h in just 4.3 seconds.
The electric sedan will achieve a range of over 550km when equipped with a 75kWh Standard Range Battery. However, a range of over 700km with a 100kWh Long Range Battery, and one that reaches over 1,000km with a 150kWh Ultralong Range Battery is also possible. These numbers are however, based on the Chinese CLTC test cycle.
ET5 comes with the latest NIO Autonomous Driving technology, which the firm states will offer 'a safe and reassuring autonomous driving experience' for scenarios including driving on highways, urban areas, parking and when battery swapping.
