First unveiled to the world in June 2021, the brand new Ferrari 296 GTB has now been officially introduced in Singapore. The 296 GTB is the latest evolution of the brand's mid-rear-engine berlinetta sports car, and delivers the cutting edge of performance, technology and excitement.Â
As Mr. Dieter Knechtel, President, Ferrari Middle East and Far East Asia, tells us about the new model, "The target is to introduce a technology change, which allows us to tackle the complex environmental restrictions that we are facing, while still keeping the edge in performance at the same time."
Aided by an electric motor, the V6 powertrain is capable of sending 819bhp to the car's rear wheels
To that end, the 296 GTB is powered by a brand new V6 engine, the first six-cylinder implemented on a Ferrari road car, paired with a plug-in hybrid system. This allows the powertrain to deliver a combined 819bhp and 740Nm of torque to the rear wheels, sending the car from 0-100km/h in just 2.9 seconds. The plug-in hybrid system also gives the car 25km of all-electric range.Â
The 296 GTB has also been designed around driving agility, helped by the short wheelbase and compact packaging that allows the car to weigh in at just 1,479kg. The 296 GTB also features new components such as the Transition Manager Actuator, six-way Chassis Dynamic Sensor, a brake-by-wire system and ABS 'evo' traction control.
The latest digital interfaces in the cockpit highlights Ferrari's minimalist approach
The design of the 296 GTB is centred around clean and sculpted forms. The muscular wings, the visor-style windscreen and robust flying buttresses create a sense of immediate dynamism, drawing inspiration from the 250 LM. At the rear, the standout feature is the Kamm tail, as well as the single central exhaust tailpipe.Â
The cabin features the latest technological solutions, featuring the digital interface first witnessed in the SF90 Stradale. A digital dashboard sits behind a steering wheel composed of mainly capacitive touch controls, while the passenger also has a passenger-side display. Â
The new 296 GTB is available at launch with a special Rosso Imola paintwork, which is a $32,600 option
For customers keen on an even more focused driver experience, the Assetto Fiorano package is also available, which includes GT racing-derived adjustable Multimatic shock absorbers, high downforce carbon-fibre appendages on the front bumper, a Lexan rear screen, and more extensive use of lightweight materials such as carbon-fibre for both the cabin and exterior. This can reduce the overall weight of the car by up to 15kg.Â
As Mr. Knechtel highlights, "The 296 GTB is a shift towards a new design, towards a new technology, and that is probably also more attractive especially to newer customers to the brand. We have seen many younger customers coming to the brand, and that has really helped to drive continuous growth across multiple markets."
Orders are open for the new Ferrari 296 GTB, which is priced at $1.13 million before COE and options. Local customer deliveries of the car are expected to begin in Q1 2023.Â
