That's in effect what Lotus has done with the all new Emira. Previewed in Singapore ahead of customer deliveries later this year, the Emira is an all new mid-engine sports car that is emblematic of the brand's continuing transformation. The brand's new direction is targeted at being both more mass market (with broader appeal and increased comfort and practicality), as well as more upmarket (with more sophistication and technology).
The 3.5-litre V6 engine pumps out a healthy 400bhp and 420Nm of torque At the heart of the Emira is a 3.5-litre supercharged V6 engine developing 400bhp and 420Nm of torque. It is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox (a six-speed automatic is available as a cost option), while hydraulic power-assisted steering ensures maximum driving engagement. A 2.0-litre variant will also be subsequently available. In that variant, the engine is a bespoke version of Mercedes-AMG's M139 engine, paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The Emira is also built on a new bonded aluminium chassis. Customers can also choose from two chassis options, Tour or Sport. In Tour specification, the dampers are tuned for more comfort, and the car gets fitted with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport tyres. For drivers keen on track days, the Sport specification offers stiffer dampers, as well as the option of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.
The V6 variant comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission Of note, the body of the Emira is made using a combination of aluminium, steel and plastic (more typical materials), representing a shift away from the fibreglass bodies of previous Lotus models.
Exterior details on the car include LED lights all around, a titanium exhaust finisher, as well as the standard Lower Black Pack, which includes gloss black front bumper air blades, front splitter, side sills and rear diffuser.
First Edition models (as seen at the preview) will come in one of six colours - Seneca Blue, Magma Red, Hethel Yellow, Dark Verdant, Shadow Grey and Nimbus Grey. There are also seven interior colour choices that customers can choose from.
More creature comforts can be found in the sophisticated and surprisingly practical cabin Inside the Emira, you will find much more technology than previously experienced on any other Lotus. There is a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, as well as a premium audio system from high-end speaker maker KEF.
With stellar demand for the Emira worldwide, Lotus Cars Singapore tells us that there's an estimated two year waiting list for the car. All 15 units allocated for Singapore for 2022 have already been sold, with first deliveries expected in Q3. The Emira is also the first model as Lotus continues to transform the brand, with the Eletre electric SUV already announced, and three more models to be revealed. And if you're keen to get on the two year waiting list, the Emira has an indicative pricing of $458,000 (not inclusive of COE).
