Lotus has revealed the first specifications of the four-cylinder variant of the Emira.
The Porsche 718 Cayman rival was initially launched with a 3.5-litre Toyota-sourced V6. However, this new four-cylinder variant comes equipped instead with the AMG M139 direct-injection turbocharged engine. This engine already sees service in Mercedes-AMG's compact performance models including the GLA45 S.
Opt for a First Edition car and you'll get a 10.25-inch centrally mounted touchscreen and a 12.3-inch TFT instrument cluster as standard The unit is also equipped with a twin-scroll turbocharger with roller bearings optimised for fast spool-up and minimum lag, and Lotus states the engine has an "enviable reputation for reliability".
The engine sees use in the Lotus Emira tuned up to 360bhp, and sporting hardware changes to aid its adaption to the Emira's mid-engine configuration. It will also get new software said to give it a true Lotus character. Also unique to its application in the Emira is the exhaust system, which was designed by Lotus.
The engine will also come as standard mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Drivers will be able to manually select gears via the steering wheel paddle shifters, while the gearbox's gearshift strategy has also been tuned at Lotus to offer a balance between outstanding driving engagement and performance, as well as fuel consumption and emissions.
From the outside, you'll be able to identify the four-cylinder variant from its unique engine bay cover and C-pillar badging.
Lotus states that this variant will also be available as a First Edition car, which adds 20-inch ultra-lightweight V-spoke forged alloy wheels on the outside, along with a 10.25-inch centrally mounted touchscreen and a 12.3-inch TFT instrument cluster ahead of the multi-function steering wheel in the cabin, amongst other features.
