A few months after scoring a commendable four stars at Euro NCAP, the Honda HR-V has once more proven its outstanding safety credentials by attaining a perfect five stars at the ASEAN NCAP.
Ratings across both agencies differ as a result of measurement metrics that are specific to each region. Motorcyclist safety, for instance, is explicitly taken into account for ASEAN NCAP.
Among the four main pillars that contribute to the overall score of any tested vehicle, the HR-V excelled most in Adult Occupant Protection and Child Occupant Protection, scoring 28.00/32 and 45.43/51 respectively.
An impressive spread of safety features are now also offered on the car, including Honda's versions of Lane Keep Assist and Lane Departure Warning. Additionally, the HR-V is equipped with Honda SENSING, an advanced driving assisting system that relies on the front wide view camera and part of the windshield to detect surrounding cars, motorcycles and pedestrians. It scored 19.50/21 for Safety Assistance Technologies.
Although offered with four airbags as standard in some regional markets, the HR-V comes with six airbags regardless of whether one opts for the DX or HX e:HEV variant in Singapore.
Honda has promised to continue providing "safe and reliable vehicles", as well as to "lead efforts to realise zero traffic collision fatalities" involving its vehicles by 2050.
