At a global business briefing in Japan, Honda previewed its next gen Hybrid Sedan Prototype, said to be one of 15 new hybrid models the company plans for introduction globally, primarily in North America, by 2030.
This was also accompanied by the preview of a next gen Acura Hybrid SUV prototype, which was also unveiled at the global business briefing.
Honda also said that it will begin launching models featuring an all-new hybrid system and next-gen platform starting in 2027. The next gen of the Honda two-motor hybrid system has been improved through advancements such as expanding the range where the engine operates most efficiently and an increase in the driving efficiency of the hybrid unit.
In total, Honda said that it will strive to improve the fuel economy of the next-gen hybrid models by more than 10%, while reducing system costs by 30% and further advance a unique Honda driving experience. In addition, a newly developed electric AWD unit will allow highly precise and responsive motor control.
Honda also provided an update on the development of the company's next-gen ADAS, which is planned for introduction starting in 2028. This system will assist the driver with vehicle operations such as acceleration and steering throughout the entire route all the way to their destination, seamlessly on both expressways and surface roads, based on driver inputs to the navigation system.
By applying next-generation ADAS to hybrid models, Honda aims to enable more customers to experience the new value that is achieved by combining the "joy of driving" with a stress-free and comfortable mobility experience.
Additional announcements during the Honda Motor Business Briefing include plans to increase hybrid vehicle production at its Marysville and East Liberty Auto Plants, make all Honda North America auto plants capable of producing hybrid models, and to launch large size hybrid models in 2029.
