As EV registrations continue to soar to new heights, a renewed push is coming from the authorities to improve the accessibility and quantity of charging stations island-wide.
The LTA announced on 2 November 2022 that it has selected five operators to deploy charging points across close to 2,000 HDB carparks across the island. In total, the tender will cover at least 12,000 charging points, which are slated to be installed by the end of 2025. The wide coverage is in line with the LTA's target of making every HDB town 'EV-ready'.

These include providers that already run their own network of charging stations, including Charge+, SP Mobility, and Shell (powered by Greenlots locally). Joining the mix are ComfortDelGro Engineering and Strides Automotive Services, both of which are affiliated to local transport conglomerates and run their own e-taxi fleets.
All of the operators will also have to operate at least three charging points in each carpark assigned to them.
According to The Straits Times, more than 10% of all new cars registered have been all-electric thus far in 2022. This is nearly triple last year’s figure.
Singapore is working towards phasing out all ICE vehicles by 2040, with all newly registered vehicles to be cleaner-energy ones by 2030. Just this past week, the European Union announced that it would be banning the sale of petrol and diesel-powered vehicles by 2035.
