Cycling paths are spreading all over our sunny island.
Following the addition of new cycling paths in the CBD, as well as the central towns of Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, and Toa Payoh in late 2022, the western section of Singapore is now getting in on the action, with a total of 8.5km of cycling paths now being added to the network of Bukit Panjang.
Some of the LRT stations within Bukit Panjang also now sport new bicycle parking facilities The LTA states that these new paths join in a network of cycling paths and park connectors in the town that already span a total of 16km. A total of seven signalised pedestrian crossings have been widened, and two bicycle crossings have been implemented in the town to support safer active mobility journeys.
With this expanded network, residents will now be able to walk and cycle to locations including Bukit Panjang Hawker Centre and Market as well as to both Bukit Panjang Plaza and Hillion Mall shopping centres.
The network also now connects to Bukit Panjang MRT station and all the eight LRT stations in Bukit Panjang. Some of these, just as we saw in the network within the CBD, will come with bicycle parking facilities.
Singapore is set to get a cycling network that spans a total of 1,300km by 2030 under the Islandwide Cycling Network programme.
