The LTA has just launched a total of 14.5km of new cycling paths in the towns of Ang Mo Kio, Bishan and Toa Payoh.
The new paths come as part of the Islandwide Cycling Network (ICN) programme, which will see the total number of cycling paths islandwide expanded to around 1,300km by 2030 so that active mobility users will be able to travel safely and seamlessly to their destinations.
The new cycling paths were opened in an event on 1 October 2022 that saw various advisers to the Ang Mo Kio, Bishan-Toa Payoh GRCs as well as Marymount SMC grassroots organisations, and Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Transport, Mr. Baey Yam Ken riding from Toa Payoh to Ang Mo Kio.
Also present to flag off those at the event was Minister for Defence Dr. Ng Eng Hen.
The LTA states that with the addition of the new paths, residents from Ang Mo Kio, Bishan and Toa Payoh can now travel conveniently between and within their towns.
In Ang Mo Kio, a total of seven kilometers of new cycling paths have been added to the current four kilometers of cycling paths. The new paths strengthen first-and-last-mile connectivity to Mayflower and Lentor MRT stations. Works are still ongoing for another 16km of cycling paths which are slated for completion in 2026 in Ang Mo Kio.
Bishan also saw close to 4km of the planned 7.7km Bishan Town cycling path network entering completion. The remaining 3.7km of cycling paths are expected to be completed come 2023.
Toa Payoh, meanwhile, saw a total of 3.5km of cycling paths added to its current transport network, with the remaining 5.5km slated for completion in 2023. When fully completed, the Toa Payoh cycling path network will provide active mobility connectivity to Braddell and Toa Payoh MRT stations.
