It may have been a cold and wet start to the weekend, but the weather certainly did not put a dampener on the warmth and generosity shown by many of the motorists of Singapore.
We are of course, judging based on the number of vehicles that turned up at the morning of 4 March 2023 to support 'Heart on Wheels' - local charity Food from the Heart's 20th anniversary donation drive.
Singapore's Polestar owners came down as soon as the event started to drop off their donations and show their support for the charity drive Currently being held at 45 Leng Kee Road just outside of the Polestar showroom, the event saw the carpark normally reserved for visitors to the showrooms instead being occupied by a temporary fixture wherein many volunteers and drivers that showed up at the donation drive in the morning were offered much needed shelter.
And what a drive it must have been for all that visited. From a convoy of the all-electric Polestar 2 and various Jaguars, to a gaggle of MINIs and even a pack of Harley-Davidsons, the various donors and their cars and bikes came thick and fast, unloading their donations of foodstuffs destined to support the hungry and less fortunate across Singapore.
Don't imagine that the good work is completed and done though. There may have been many cars at the first morning of the event, but there are many hungry mouths to feed: Food from the Heart states that its beneficiaries totalled 44,600 in 2019.
Swing by on 5 March 2023 to donate - a team of volunteers from Food from the Heart will be on hand to assist with the unloading But rising inflation as well as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic has seen this number swell to 59,500 in 2021, so, there's still more that can be done.
If you want to make a difference to the lives of those needing assistance around you, the Heart on Wheels charity drive will make a return the morning this article goes live (that is, from 9:00am to 6:00pm, 5 March 2023, at 45 Leng Kee Road).
Food from the Heart is looking for donations of foodstuffs that include bags of rice, cooking oil, as well as instant noodles, canned food as well as coffee, tea and Milo in sachets, as well as biscuit and bread spreads (more details of the foodstuffs to donate is available here).
Those that head down with their cars will enjoy a complimentary tyre shine from Wearnes, while the first 100 cars to reach on 5 March will receive a complimentary treat sponsored by McDonald's Singapore.
