  • Lancia reveals new Pu+Ra HPE concept

    19 Apr 2023

The Lancia Pu+Ra HPE concept features a new grille, the brand's familiar round taillights, as well as a coffee table-inspired dashboard and centre console.

Lancia has revealed the Pu+Ra HPE, the first concept car from the brand since its revival was announced in November of 2022.

The Lancia Pu+Ra HPE (HPE being an acronym for High Performance Electric) is said to be an expression of Italian timeless design. The concept thus makes use of elementary and iconic forms such as the circle and the triangle, combined with a few eclectic details to make up its general shape.

The Pu+Ra HPE concept gets the round taillights at the rear now so associated with the Lancia brand
At the front of the car is said to be a reinterpreted historic Lancia grille, here redesigned to represent three rays of light at the front of the vehicle. The rear of the car, however, should be more easily recognisable. Here, the use of round taillights, as well as the enveloping horizontal lines at the rear window all recall the historic Lancia Stratos.

Key design features we think could see adoption in future production vehicles from the firm include the use of the new Lancia logo on the sides of the vehicle, as well as the use of Lancia lettering in between the lights at the front and rear.

On the inside, the car takes the idea of a lounge-like cabin quite literally. The concept car gets front seats inspired by the Maralunga armchairs, while the dashboard and centre console are clearly designed to mimic round coffee tables. This cabin will also be bathed in natural light, thanks to the use of a circular roof above.

Use of round glass as the centre console and dashbaord takes inspiration from Italian furniture
But the radical thinking does not end there. The door panels in the Lancia Pu+Ra HPE are covered with a material the firm names as 'MarmMore', which is comprised not only of recycled fabric, but also waste marble dust.

Lancia states that it plans to launch a new Ypsilon in 2024 which will be available with either a hybrid or all-electric drivetrain.

The firm also plans to only launch all-electric vehicles from 2026, and come 2028, the brand will not only launch a new Delta, but will also exclusively sell electric models.
