  • Lotus' first-ever electric SUV, the Eletre, has been previewed in Singapore

Lotus' electrifying new hyper-SUV is coming soon, and we have just been invited to a special preview to take a closer look at it!

Lotus Singapore invited the local media to a special preview of the exciting new addition to the brand's lineup - the Eletre, its first-ever electric SUV.

The Eletre is to be offered in three versions, the Eletre, Eletre S and Eletre R. There are two EV powertrains to choose from, with the Eletre and Eletre S producing 603bhp, and the Eletre R producing a blitzing 905bhp.

The Eletre S on display is equipped with a set of massive wheels and carbon ceramic brakes
The unit that we are getting a closer look at is the Eletre S that has been optioned with some exquisite bits, such as those massive 23-inch wheels and the set of carbon ceramic brakes sitting behind them.

This hyper-SUV marks Lotus's transformation from a sports car company to a global performance car brand.

Understanding the changing needs of its customers, the brand believes that the Eletre is the natural next step for it. "Two-seater sports cars are not for everyone, and we want to offer a Lotus for every stage of your life. The Eletre is the start of that," said Matt Windle, Group Vice-President and Managing Director, Lotus Cars.

This hulking SUV is able to complete the century sprint in just 4.5 seconds!
Indeed, the Eletre couldn't be more different than the Lotus sports cars that we are all familiar with.

The Eletre S that we got up close and personal with weighs around 2,500kg and produces 603bhp - not exactly in line with Lotus' founder, Colin Chapman's famous quote of "simplify, then add lightness".

But that doesn't make it any less impressive, because this hulking SUV that's over five meters long and has a massive boot capacity of over 600 litres is able to complete the century sprint in just 4.5 seconds, and it will go on to reach a top speed of 258km/h. And even with such amazing performance figures, the Eletre S manages a range of 600km (WLTP).

Equipped with high-tech LIDAR equipment, the Eletre's hardware is ready to support Level 4 autonomous driving
Performance isn't the only focus of the Eletre S. It is also equipped with deployable LIDAR technology - hardware that is designed to support Level 4 autonomous driving systems.

It's capability to support Over-The-Air software update ensures the system to be fully ready when individual market regulations allow for the more advanced levels of autonomous driving.

In fact, the Eletre S has already been tested and is able to drive autonomously for 200km during development.

The interior of the Eletre is premium, and features top-tier fit and finish
Inside the Eletre S that was showcased, the premium quality of the interior is clear to see. All materials used are decidedly high-grade, with excellent fit and finish - perfectly in line with what you'll expect from a premium luxury SUV.

The Eletre S will be in Singapore till 7 June 2023, Wednesday, for customers and the media to take a closer look at.

Deliveries to the first customers are expected to start early next year, with an expected starting price of $580,000 to $600,000 before COE (price subjected to changes). The powerful Eletre R is also expected to be available here when the car officially launches.
