The Takeri Concept will be unveiled at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show, which will open on November 30, and the concept hints at a new mid-sized sedan which could serve as the replacement for Mazda’s 6. The all-new Mazda6 is expected to go on sale in 2013.The Takeri Concept uses Mazda’s “KODO – Soul of Motion” design language that has been seen on recent concepts, such as the Minagi crossover and Shinari sports sedan, from which the Takeri takes many of its styling cues.
Mazda did not reveal many details about the Takeri, but said that it will have a Skyactive D diesel engine that gets several fuel-saving features, including auto stop/start as well as Mazda’s first kinetic energy recovery system.
During braking, this system captures energy that would otherwise be dissipated as heat, converts it to electricity, stores it in capacitors and uses it to power the car’s ancillary electric systems, further reducing engine consumption.
