According to a recent report, Volvo is looking to delay the production of their entry-level crossover, which could be called the XC30 or XC40 until they can reach a platform sharing agreement with another carmaker.
Volvo has determined that their current Ford-based architecture is not flexible enough to be used on a new crossover. Their upcoming Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) has also been said to be too large to underpin the model. With the small crossover segment seeing a boom trend, this has left Volvo in a bind.
There's no news on when the agreement could be reached as yet, although former Volvo CEO Stefan Jacoby has confirmed that discussions are already underway.
