Mazda is reportedly working on a next generation Mazda2-based small SUV, dubbed the CX-3, which will rival the likes of the Nissan Juke and other cars in the segment.
The CX-3 will adopt the company's SkyActiv technologies, with emphasis on low weight and various efficiency related tweaks. Two possible engines for the new model include a 1.3-litre petrol turbo and a 1.6-litre diesel.
Mazda will probably offer the CX-3 exclusively in a front-wheel drive guise since 2WD crossovers are in greater demand than AWD versions. Practicality will also play an important role in the development of the car, such as intelligent seat layout with the rear seats electrically folded flat by pressing a button.
The CX-3 should make its debut as early as 2014, and ready to go on sales a few months afterwards.
