In the one-year progress report from the Bus Service Enhancement Programme, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said that some 111 bus services, or an average of two out of every five bus routes, have been improved.

The major bus plan is worth $1.1 billion and was launched last September.

Mr Lui added that close to half of the initially planned 550 new buses have been commissioned for service. These additional buses have been used in both new bus routes as well as to add onto the current routes to improve waiting times.

Another 200 buses will roll out by the end of next year. A review will also be conducted after 2014 to see if other improvements are required.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said that two new routes will be implemented by the end of this year in Taman Jurong and Bukit Panjang. The authority, however, did not release details of these routes, but revealed that they will likely be short trunk services.
