A brand new Downtown Line
08 Dec 2013|3,183 views
The first stage of Downtown Line will be opened on 22nd December, and will also serve as a test bed for new implementations aimed at shaping commuters' behaviour for a more pleasant journey.
Firstly, the platforms at six stations will implement new types of queue lines for passengers to enter the train in a more orderly manner. The lines at Telok Ayer and Promenade will be drawn parallel to the platform doors - a concept similar to those at some Taipei metro stations.
On the other hand, Chinatown, Downtown, Bayfront and Bugis stations will have queue lines with more widely spaced markings, so that commuters can enter and leave the train with better allowance.
Other new ideas include playing soft music at platforms for a more soothing ambience to calm passengers, as well painted reserve seats with newer, eye catching designs.
These ideas were gathered from a study done with 1,000 commuters, conducted by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) from February to July. And if these were to work, they will also be implemented on other MRT lines.
