Commuters to enjoy free travel on Downtown Line Stage One for 11 days

Stage One of the Downtown Line will open on the 22nd December, and passengers will be able to enjoy free travel on the line till 1st January 2014.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said that this move aims to encourage commuters to familiarise themselves with the new MRT line, which will comprise of six stations, namely Chinatown, Telok Ayer, Downtown, Bayfront, Promenade and Bugis.
The Public Transport Council has approved the fare structure for the new MRT line, which follows that of the North-East and Circle lines. For example, a 4.3km travel on the standard ticket will cost $1.50.
An open house will also held on Saturday, with events planned at Bugis, Chinatown, Telok Ayer and Downtown stations. During the open house commuters will be able to visit the stations and ride for free from 10:00am to 6:00pm.
