  • Blue Sky DEF-initely the smarter choice for diesel engine owners

Best Chemical's Blue Sky Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) emerges as cleaner and cleverer choice for diesel engine owners.

As commercial vehicle and engine manufacturers around the world are looking to further reduce CO2 and NOx emissions and to improve fuel efficiency beyond Euro 6 standards, local authorities here are also joining leading economies globally to mandate dramatic reductions in diesel engines.

NOx emissions are produced during the high temperature combustion process and is a major contributor to smog and other air pollutants. Exposure to NOx can lead to respiratory and heart diseases, with deadly and costly consequences to both individuals and the economy.

But here's the light at the end of the tunnel, a solution that kills two birds with one stone - Blue Sky DEF not only reduces the output of toxic NOx greatly, it also improves engine performance and fuel efficiency for diesel engine owners.

NOx emissions are produced during the combustion process, and is a major contributor to smog and other air pollutants

    What is it?

For starters, Blue Sky DEF is a urea-based solution composed of 32.5 percent high-purity urea and 67.5 percent deionised water. It is a clear, odourless liquid - almost like plain water - and very safe to handle.

If the term DEF sounds unfamiliar, you may have heard of the other name for it, AdBlue®. Both are essentially the same, with different naming trademarks used in different countries. AdBlue® is the name trademarked in Europe, while DEF is the name for the product in North America.

All producers of DEF or AdBlue® have to conform strictly to the ISO 22241 specifications globally, and if the product is manufactured in America, like Blue Sky DEF, they also have to be certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API).

As Blue Sky DEF is certified by the API for meeting the most stringent and rigorous standards, its purity is of the highest calibre. To operate well, DEF must meet an exacting purity standard so consumers are strongly advised to look out for the API certification displayed on these products.

Blue Sky DEF is an inexpensive and efficient option for lowering NOx emissions, and is extremely easy to use

    How to use it?

Blue Sky DEF is an inexpensive and efficient option for lowering NOx emissions, and is extremely easy to use. It is used in conjunction with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system installed in the exhaust to reduce harmful nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel engines.

The combination of Blue Sky DEF and SCR technology not only reduces NOx emissions, it actually improves a vehicle's horsepower by making diesel engines run more efficiently, resulting in significant fuel savings.

The solution is added to a separate storage tank in diesel-powered vehicles equipped with SCR technology. The fluid is injected into the hot exhaust stream of the vehicle and helps break down the nitrogen oxide gases in the exhaust into nitrogen gas and water vapour, both harmless to the environment. Any diesel vehicle with SCR technology can use Blue Sky DEF, and there are no special filters or absorbers required. Owners simply fill their DEF tanks periodically and the SCR technology handles the rest.

With Blue Sky DEF's specially patented nozzle design, filling up will also be relatively fuss-free. Blue Sky DEF's 2.5-gallon containers are the only ones here that feature a patented nozzle with a breathing valve that ensures efficient, continuous pour, non-glugging and rapid dispensing. This self-venting dispensing spout enables users to have better control and avoid spills when filling their tanks.

Prime Blue International (Managing Director Stig Uhlen, left) recently appointed Best Chemical Co (S) Pte Ltd (Managing Director Johnny Wong, right) as their exclusive distributor for Blue Sky DEF in Singapore

    Where to get it?

Blue Sky DEF is manufactured and distributed by Prime Blue International (PBI) which recently appointed Best Chemical Co (S) Pte Ltd (Bestchem) as their exclusive distributor for Blue Sky DEF in Singapore.

PBI is more than just a trusted name in the production of high-quality DEF, but are experts in the field. Ever since it commenced operations in New Jersey, U.S.A. in 2010, PBI has expanded from one plant to 14 production facilities today. Its focus is providing the highest quality product, service and equipment solutions to satisfy its global clientele.

PBI's exclusive distributor, Bestchem, is a highly reputable distributor for several specialty solvents, chemicals and race fuels across Southeast Asia. With the recent launch of its e-store and 24-hour walk-in, one-stop shop, owners of diesel vehicles can pop by Bestchem's premises at 60 Senoko Road, Singapore (758124) to purchase Blue Sky DEF any time of the day, seven days a week.
