2021 sees tyres and automotive parts manufacturer firm Continental celebrate its 150th anniversary. We trace the milestones of Continental and its 150 years of countless innovations, and how our roads have been made safer thanks to the efforts of this German technology-centred brand.
A history filled with innovation
Some of its most notable achievements include the development of the first grooved tyres for cars in 1904, dramatically improving tyre capabilities in challenging weather.
In 1943, Continental was also the world's first company to file a patent for tubeless tyres, a revolutionary technological innovation back in the day.
Still looking to the future
The firm is at the forefront of the development of driverless mobility with the Continental Urban Mobility Experience (CUbE), a driverless vehicle intended to bring commuters to their destinations safely and comfortably.
Continental is also developing a new innovative material, Taraxagum, which is extracted from the dandelion plant. The tyre manufacturer aims to use dandelion rubber as a sustainable alternative for its raw material.
