I would like to start off by saying that the all new XPENG Mona L03 isn't just another Chinese electric car, but that would be like saying COE prices are sky high - it's nothing new anymore.
But the car that you see here on this very page matters because XPENG is using it to make a bigger point - smart EV technology should not only live in expensive cars with dramatic lighting signatures and prices that require you to sacrifice an arm and a leg. Instead, the electric car attacks several fronts at once - price, design, range, practicality and intelligence.
Here's what you have to know about the XPENG Mona L03 - an all-electric coupe SUV.
1. It's the first SUV within the Mona series
The XPENG L03 may be the second model in the Mona series following the M03 electric sedan, but it's the first Mona SUV to see daylight. This matters because the global demand for SUVs isn't just increasing, it's dominating.
In 2013, SUVs accounted for roughly 21% of global vehicle sales. By 2024, SUVs captured around 54% of global car sales for the first time. As we move through 2026, there is little evidence that the trend is reversing.
Sure, once upon a time, every driveway had a sedan. Today, the sedan is increasingly becoming the automotive equivalent of a fax machine - still around, still useful, but rapidly overshadowed by something most prefer. The SUV hasn't just joined the party, it has taken over the house.
2. It will be reasonably priced when it arrives
Positioned below more premium brethren such as the XPENG G6 and XPENG X9 in Singapore, the Mona series models are created to be the carmaker's more youthful and affordable smart EV models. Thus, the L03 is expected to be priced lesser than the G6 SUV.
As of time of writing, the most affordable G6 variant will currently set you back $218,000, which means the L03 should cost well under this figure when it arrives on our shores.
3. Two variants will be coming to Singapore
Yes, when the XPENG L03 arrives to Singapore in the fourth quarter of this year, there'll be two variants - an all wheel-drive and a rear wheel-drive model, both of which should be equipped with a 71.2kWh battery.
The more powerful all-wheel drive variant will have 382bhp on tap that will allow the car to finish the century sprint in just 4.5 seconds. It will have a range of about 445km. The rear-wheel driven model, on the other hand, will shoot out 241bhp to the wheels, giving it the ability to get from nought to 100km/h in 6.6 seconds. This variant will have a longer range of about 520km on a full charge.
4. It's shaped with help from Ferrari experience
Figures aside, one of the delicious details about the L03 is that the coupe SUV was designed by a global team led by Juanma Lopez, former Ferrari's Head of Exterior Design. He reportedly participated in designing 25 Ferrari models, including the LaFerrari, 458 and Monza SP.
Of course, this doesn't mean the Mona L03 is suddenly a Ferrari in Uniqlo clothing. It does, however, explain why the car possesses such an appealing look. Thanks to its svelte fastback-style SUV silhouette, together with aerodynamic enhancement features, the car has a drag coefficient of 0.228Cd - a very slippery figure for a family car.
5. It is practical, not just pretty
As a result of its good looks and its filling of smart EV technology, the XPENG L03 is targeted at smart and stylish young consumers who are in touch with technology and design. That said, the car not all about its exemplary looks.
Measuring 4,650mm long, 1,920mm wide and 1,600mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,850mm, the L03 is undoubtedly a practical machine. Not only will it swallow five full-sized Singaporean adults easily, it is also good for school bags, groceries, sports gear and that one enormous stroller everyone regrets buying, all thanks to a 539-litre boot - expandable to 1,640 litres - plus a 102-litre front trunk and a 10-litre 'drawer' underneath the rear seat.
