Audi e-tron features virtual exterior mirrors to improve drag coefficient
02 Jun 2018|3,373 views
Audi has revealed that the upcoming e-tron will be available with the world's first 'virtual' exterior mirrors, helping to reduce the car's aerodynamic drag coefficient to just 0.28.
The virtual exterior mirrors are narrower than standard mirrors, reducing the vehicle's width by 15cm, and are shaped to reduce drag and wind noise. The mirrors integrate a small camera that helps capture images that appear on OLED displays in the transition between the instrument panel and door.
These more compact exterior cameras combine with active aerodynamics and air suspension that can lower the car into its most aerodynamic position when cruising, giving the car a claimed drag coefficient figure of 0.28, which makes it 0.04 slipperier than the smaller Audi Q2.
