Production of Audi's final, all new combustion engine will start in 2025. From 2026, the German automaker will only release all-electric models.

At the Climate Neutrality Foundation conference held in Berlin, Audi announced that production of its final, all new combustion engine model will start in four years. In addition, beginning in 2026, the German automaker will only release all-electric new models on the global market.

As part of its strategic realignment, the company is accelerating the transition to e-mobility, and will gradually phase out the production of internal combustion engines in the years leading up to 2033. Ultimately, Audi aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 at the latest.

New models like the Q4 Sportback e-tron significantly expand Audi's all-electric lineup
Audi expects to see continued demand for combustion engines in China beyond 2033, necessitating the supply of vehicles there with engines manufactured locally. At the same time, Audi will significantly expand its range of all-electric models. With the new Audi e-tron GT, Audi RS e-tron GT, Audi Q4 e-tron, and Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron models, the automaker is already launching more electric cars than models with combustion engines in 2021.

The brand acknowledged that expanding existing charging infrastructure and renewable energy sources is crucial for the uptake of e-mobility. To this end, Audi unveiled the Audi Charging Hub pilot project as its premium charging solution, which features with a reservation system and lounge.

Audi will spare no effort towards the development of the combustion engine, right up to its discontinuation. Regardless of what the future has in store, one thing is for sure - "Audi's last internal combustion engine will be the best we've ever built," promises Audi's CEO Markus Duesmann.
