BMW has rolled off the first series production examples of the new BMW 7 Series alongside the all-electric i7 at Plant Dingolfing.
The firm states that it has invested over $436 million to ready the Dingolfing vehicle plant for production of the new BMW 7 Series, which is now being assembled on the same line as the BMW 5 Series, 8 Series and the fully electric BMW iX.
The BMW i7 and 7 Series is being built on the same line that manufactures the iX at Plant Dingolfing This has been made possible thanks to the use of various technology modules from the BMW iX within the 7 Series - these technology modules are said to encompass the componentry for the car's onboard network architecture, user interface and driver assistance systems.
The iX has also trailblazed many of the production and validation processes in assembly for the 7 Series, with examples including the use of a redesigned aggregate fitting station, sling loop assembly, test rigs for driver assistance systems and the new finish process, which is now even more efficient throughout, from first ignition to the vehicle dispatch area.
To date Plant Dingolfing has manufactured a grand total of more than 11 million BMW cars, and is currently on track to manufacture the two millionth 7 Series later this year. Every day, around 1,600 examples of the BMW 4 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, 7 Series, 8 Series and all new, fully electric BMW iX vehicles are said to roll off the production lines at the plant. Annual output here totalled some 245,000 units in 2021.
BMW states the 7 Series will reach customers around the world from the third quarter of 2021, once sales organisations have been provided with the show and demonstration vehicles they need.
