    In the second Certificate of Entitlement bidding round for August, premiums for Cat A and B climbed while premiums for Cat E slipped.

    In the second round of bidding for August, Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums rose for Cat A and B while premiums for Cat E fell.

    The increase in COE premiums this session could have been fuelled by increased new car buying activity resulting from the recent Cars@Expo event. This could also explain the increase in bids received for Cat A and B.

    Cat A COE - Climbing closer to $90,000

    Premiums for Cat A, for cars up to 1,600cc in engine capacity and with an output of no more than 130bhp, or electric vehicles with a power output of up to 110kW, took a sharp climb this session, rising by $7,889 (9.9%) to end at $87,889.

    This latest climb sees premiums for the category now standing at 39.5% above the 12-month trailing average. The total number of bids submitted this session exceeded the number of unsuccessful bids this round by 52%, higher than the 12-month average of 42% for the category.

    Cat B COE - Reversing last session's drop

    Premiums for Cat B, for larger cars with more than 130bhp or engine displacements larger than 1,600cc, or electric vehicles with a power output of more than 110kW, saw a climb this session, undoing the drop from the last bidding session. Premiums in the category climbed by $5,000 (4.7%) this session to reach $112,001.

    This renewed climb in premiums for the category has brought the current price to 27.6% above the 12-month trailing average.

    The total number of unsuccessful bids this round exceed the quota available by 41%, lower than the 12-month average figure for this category of 42%.

    Cat C COE - A $3,001 climb this session

    Premiums for Cat C, for goods vehicles and buses, climbed this session, rising by $3,001 (5.4%), to close at $59,090.

    The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 125%, far higher than the 12-month average for this category of 94%.

    Cat E COE - The only category to slip this session

    Cat E, the open category, was the only category to slip this seesion, dropping by a total of $999 (0.9%), bringing the premium for the category to $112,001.

    This latest drop means current premiums for the category are now at 23.9% above the 12-month trailing average.

    The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 67%. The 12-month average for this figure for the category is 66%.

    Prevailing Quota Premium

    The Prevailing Quota Premium is the amount to be paid for COE renewal and is computed from the moving average of the previous three-months of COE prices. Those looking to renew the COE on their cars will thus have to pay the following prices for the respective months.
