Jaguar has officially pulled the covers off the Type 01 in New York, introducing the most powerful, aerodynamic and technologically advanced road car in its history.
The electric four-door grand tourer made its presence known across digital displays in Times Square, Dumbo, and the Lower East Side, before sweeping through the city to an exclusive gathering at Storied in West Chelsea - fittingly located in zip code 10001.
Subtle it was not. The Type 01 paired a low 1,400mm roofline with a long bonnet, sleek silhouette, and rear-leaning stance, creating the sort of proportions designed to stop traffic rather than blend into it. Its clean, convention-breaking shape carried echoes of the E-type and XJS without becoming a retro tribute, while frameless doors, slim lighting signatures, and a glassless fastback gave it a distinctly modern identity.
One of its standout exterior details was the so-called "Impossible Panel" at the rear quarter, where several surfaces converged above the rear wheel. The deeply sculpted aluminium section was considered too complex for conventional cold pressing, but Jaguar found a way to put it into production. It joined the strikethrough motif and bold linear graphics as part of the brand's new visual language.
Inside, a brass-inspired central spine ran the full length of the cabin, emphasising its longitudinal layout and dividing the interior into four individual spaces. The low seating position was designed to make the cabin feel snug and confidence-inspiring, while travertine-inspired colours, textile textures, and reductive surfaces brought a warmer, more crafted feel to the otherwise futuristic setting.
Technology was deliberately kept out of sight until required. A slim dashboard integrated the infotainment system, concealed compartments added a little surprise, and the digital ClearSight rear-view display sat centrally at the base of the windscreen, aligned with the door mirrors to keep the driver's focus forward. Strikethrough elements also visually connected the bonnet and dashboard, giving the exterior and cabin a single, coherent theme.
Beneath the drama was Jaguar Electric Architecture, a dedicated 850-volt platform producing more than 735kW and over 1,300Nm through a tri-motor all-wheel-drive setup. Jaguar quoted an EPA range of 644km, while 350kW rapid charging could add 322km in 13 minutes.
Lessons from Jaguar TCS Racing also shaped its all-wheel drive control software, silicon-carbide inverters, regenerative braking, range, and charging performance, with the aim of delivering the pace, refinement, and composure expected of a proper Jaguar GT.
The launch was as much a cultural statement as a car reveal. Actor Florence Pugh was introduced as Jaguar's first brand ambassador for its new era, while British singer-songwriter Sienna Spiro performed an intimate set and chef Roze Traore created a bespoke culinary programme.
The car itself was designed, engineered, and will be built in the U.K., with orders due to open in early 2027 and first deliveries expected in the second half of the year.
